Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.40am 11th March 2024
Weather:
The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 70-80% chance of showers and a chance of a storm north of Maroochydore. The top temperature should be 28-29 degrees
Wind:
15-20kts SE this morning, freshening to 20kts plus during the day
Swell:
2-2.5m E/SE on the open beaches. Smaller in the inner bays on the northern side of headlands, particularly at Noosa
Tides:
High: 9am … Low 3pm
Best waves:
Another day of fresh to strong SE winds and a solid easterly swell, typical March conditions. The open beaches are too messy and the points and bays on the north side of headlands are the places to look for waves, but it’s not for beginners.
It was new moon last night, so there’s a big high tide mid morning and most breaks will become too full as we near the top of the tide, but as has been the case the past few days, should improve as the tide falls off to a mid afternoon low, when there’ll be less water on the banks. The Noosa Festival of Surfing is on for the rest of this week, so there’ll be a lot happening at Main Beach and First Point
Best Beaches:
With a big easterly swell combined with big tides, there’s a lot of water pushing around and swimming in the surf is potentially dangerous. Some beaches will be closed and it’s important to not to go in the water if they are.
If they are open, don’t go in unless you are a strong swimmer and if you do, don’t go out of your depth and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
