About Us
Coastwatch was founded in 1989 by Ken “Brownie” Brown as a Queensland coastal info service on Channel 7 Brisbane, the Courier and Sunday Mail, Radio 4KQ and the Coastwatch web site.
Brownie grew up on or in the ocean, surfing, boating and fishing. He is a qualified marine master and engineer and for many years ran marlin fishing charters out of Brisbane, while at the same time working for the media.
His practical experience is what made Brownie and Coastwatch a “trusted” coastal info source.
Brownie has recently retired and handed the Coastwatch reigns to long time friend David Granville. As you can see for yourself the website has taken on a whole new look. Something that obviously some of you will like and some of you won’t.
At the end of the day we have to play to our strengths and David’s is in content creation, particularly in the boating and fishing worlds. As time passes this content will broaden but initially this is a one man band. Not being a weatherman like Brownie it would be crazy to pretend to be one so yes there is a lot less weather info on the new site.
That said, Windy is a great weather app and as it is embedded on the home page we hope that you take the time to familiarise yourself with this platform. That way you can take advantage of all the other interesting content throughout the new site while you’re here.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Coastwatch newsletter for exclusive content and special offers. And it would be greatly appreciated if you subscribe to our Youtube Channel and follow us on facebook and Instagram if you haven’t already done so.
Don’t destroy what you came to enjoy…
