WEEKEND OUTLOOK FOR 29th, 30th November & 1st December 2024. ISSUED THURSDAY 28th Nov @ 12 noon.

Weekend Outlook

WEATHER

At this stage the weekend ahead is predicted to have temps ranging from 22 degrees overnight, to daytime temps of 28 degrees. The summer east swell train has started and is forecast to continue through all next week. Friday afternoon is showing light East winds to 10Knts before stronger North East winds for the remainder of the weekend, reaching up to 20Knts Saturday and Sunday.

Byron Coast

Gold Coast

Moreton Bay

Sunshine Coast

Hervey Bay / Fraser Island Coast

Tides & Moon: Early morning high tides around 7.30am, and afternoon low tides around 2pm. For more tide and moon info, click here.

BEACH

With the ongoing minor east swell event, beach swimming is not advised due to unstable sand banks and rip currents. This weekend is forecast to be much the same on the Gold and Sunshine Coast with current water temp warming up to 23 degrees. The best spots will be Tally creek on the Gold Coast during the incoming tide, and Mooloolaba Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

SURFING

The Gold and Sunshine Coast summer surf season is well under way with the East swell holding firm at around 1.2m at 8 seconds Friday and building to 1.6m Saturday and Sunday, which should see fun waves peaking around 4-5ft on the open beaches and point breaks over the weekend and into next week. Unfortunately, it will be hard to escape the stronger North East winds, so get into the water nice and early.

BOATING & FISHING

With this combination of East swell and wind, the offshore fishing won’t be great and all bar crossings up and down the coast will be unpredictable and dangerous. The best way to escape the strong east winds is to try some freshwater options. The Nerang river between Nerang and the Weedon’s Crossing weir has been excellent hunting grounds for Australian Bass. The Jackall Pompador Lure has been working a treat and these fish have been more aggressive lately as the water warms up.

Don’t forget to check out the comprehensive COASTWATCH FISHING REPORT on the website covering Hervey Bay to Evans Head.

Overall, a few possible showers, up to 5mm predicted for Friday, 15mm Saturday and 20mm Sunday at this stage. Happy Hunting wherever you are !!
