Weekend Coastal Outlook for 6th-7th July 2024

Weekend Outlook

Good morning ocean lovers, Nathan Meyer here to present the beach, surf and fishing report and weekend outlook for this weekend the 6th and 7th of July 2024.

Weather Snapshot

We’ve woken up to a cooler finish to the week at just 11 degrees this morning at Burleigh Heads, with a brisk south wind at 20 to 30 km per hour.

Sunrise at 6.39 a.m. and sunset at 5.03 this evening.

The weekend looks much the same with strong southerly winds forecast 20 to 30 km per hour Saturday and Sunday; slightly easing Sunday afternoon to around 15 to 20 km per hour.

There’s a strong chance of coastal showers with about 1 to 5 mm of rain predicted each day over the weekend so not looking particularly nice for our beaches or fishing.

Beach

If you need to get the saltwater into your veins and have to swim, the best place would be the sheltered corners of Greenmount or Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast and Moffat Beach; Mooloolaba or Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. Remember to always swim between the red and yellow flags.

Surfing

For the surfers the waves have been pretty nice on the protected point breaks of the Gold Coast with snapper rocks through to Kirra, Currumbin and Burleigh Heads having waves ranging in the 2 to 4 foot range over the last couple of days.

The swell is predicted to hang in over the weekend with the offshore swell at 3 meters Saturday morning and gradually decreasing to 2 meters by Sunday afternoon making for some excellent waves on the points.

The Sunshine Coast should see very similar weather conditions with some small clean pealers at Noosa; and for those of you who would like to avoid the crowds try the beach breaks on the Gold Coast at High Tide from Palm Beach to Tallebudgera Rock Wall; and on the Sunshine Coast, hit the beach breaks at Dickey Beach and Kawana before the wind gets too strong.

Bars, Boating & Fishing

Unfortunately the coastal bars from Tweed Heads to Noosa will be mostly too dangerous to tackle with large swells of 2 to 3 meters predicted and strong southerly winds up to 30 kilometers per hour.

If you just have to wet a line, focus on the rivers and creeks in your area with some great flathead being caught in the Tweed River and Southport Broadwater through to Jumpinpin Bar.

My Flathead lure of the week is a soft plastic 4 inch paddle tail in motor oil color producing some excellent fish this week.

Plenty of tailor and bream being caught around the rock walls of Tallebudgera, the Tweed and the Southport Seaway.

Overall not a fantastic weekend weather wise but still plenty of opportunity to get outside and get amongst it.

Be sure to check our comprehensive weather pages for the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Hervey Bay for up to date information throughout your weekend.
