Australian Bass closed season all Queensland tidal waters from 1 June to 31 August.
Hervey Bay
Some exceptional deep dropping off Wide Bay Bar, taking various species including jobfish, pearl perch and large bar cod. Snapper and pearl perch in good numbers not far from Wide Bay Bar. Good tuskfish, reds, nannygai, moses perch. There is abundant bait, clear water, and limited sharks in area. Thanks to Greg at Double Island Point Fishing Charters for their information.
Predicted weather in the week ahead may force anglers chasing snapper into Platypus Bay – where there are plenty of bait fish. Bi-catch currently includes nannygai, mackerel and mack tuna. Urangan Pier is yielding bream, flathead, school mackerel and some smaller mack tuna. Green toadfish a problem.

Rainbow Beach Offshore
Large daily hauls of snapper and pearl perch; moses perch, venus tuskfish, scarlet sea perch, cobia, wrasse, some big red emperor (one going 20kg).

Tin Can Bay
Good flathead along foreshore between crab creek and Norman Point for land-based anglers on the run-out tide. Small schools of mackerel and tuna near Inskip Point. A few winter whiting around moored boats in the Bay. Possibility for Golden Trevally around Snapper Creek around moorings.

Noosa
Bream, flathead in lower reaches, river mouth and Woods Bay. Grunter bream upstream around the Tewantin stretches; and flathead, bream and grunter bream in front of the first lake.

Plenty of different species being taken at The Hards, including snapper, pearl perch, tuskfish, kingfish, hussar, moses perch, goldspot, wrasse. While at North Reef and Chardons Reef: blue fin tuna, Spanish mackerel, cobia, squire, pearl perch and Moses perch were showing up.

Maroochydore
Plenty of bream in the middle reaches under the cod hole; flathead in the middle to upper reaches; abundant mud crabs in the middle to upper reaches; a few moderately sized whiting near river mouth. Trevally under the bridge in the middle reaches.

Bream in the Mooloolah River around La Balsa Park in the upper reaches; flathead in the canals, and trevally around the trawler docks. Squid in the mouth of the river. No offshore report due to inclement weather.

Caloundra
Weather has ruled out offshore fishing the last week and through to early next, however try the passage in the protected corners for bream and flathead. There are still garfish to go after and some crabs, so worth putting some pots out. Live-baiting for mullet and tempting jewfish could also be tried.

Donnybrook
Abundant bream in the deeper holes, some summer whiting still turning up and plenty of winter whiting around the Mission Point area. Bream are spawning so some nice sized fish in the deeper holes. Flathead on the sandbanks. A few tailor appearing following bait schools around the channels. A few smaller jew being caught. Crabs have dropped off with the cooler water.

Very good size winter whiting in excellent numbers off the Shorncliffe Pier with beach worm and light tackle. Abundant tailor on Brighton Foreshore using gar, pilchards and blue baits. Larger numbers of garfish.

Brisbane River – Northern Moreton Bay
Diver whiting on eastern side of Fisherman Island and at Darcy Light. Plenty of tailor, good sized bream and snapper reported in the lower reaches of the river, along the rock bars and walls. Some flathead and a few mud crabs at Fisherman Island.

Good snapper at the artificial reefs at Peel Island and Harry Atkinson. Diver whiting at Rous Channel, at the Sandhills and surrounding sandbanks . Quality tailor and jewfish off North Stradbroke Island. Flathead in the southern bay around the islands.

Good flathead on the bite, alongside bream in the 700 to 800 gram range. Tailor being taken on hard-body lures. Yabbies and prawns prevalent.

Abundance of tailor in deeper parts of the channels (5m+ of water) and around the seaway next to Carters Bank. Bream around pontoons. Some big flathead around Crab Island. Squid along weed banks near Grand Hotel.

Southport
Plenty of tailor on beaches from North Stradbroke all the way to the border. Inside the Seaway and Jumpinpin, good jewfish, some big flathead, bream plentiful. Big eye trevally and giant trevally in the washes around the rock wall. Further up the broadwater, flathead going very well. Good tailor around Sovereign Islands all the way through to the Aldershots. Still some nice summer whiting up Nerang River. Crabs quieter.

Evans Head
Some good tailor caught off beaches. Bream along Airforce Beach and Main Beach. Some bream, tailor and luderick around the walls at the river mouth. Bream, flathead and whiting in the Evans River, with mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Hinze Dam
Bass on deep spinner baits; and on sinking fly lines with a minnow style fly – good catches off the points. Also being caught jigging metal lures.

Wivenhoe Dam
Bass starting to show up out from Billy’s Bay, around Platypus Cliffs and out on flats. Suggested lures to try: metal spoons (20 to 30gm range). Trolling around the buoy line on old river bed at 20 to 30 foot mark also successful. Further north of the Dam, bass appearing at Hammond Cove on the flats. Metal spoon lures (20 to 30gm range) suggested this time of year. Casting deeper diving crank baits around 4m mark also getting some bass on cliffs near Hammond Cove. Some fish being caught on cliffs near Hammond Cove.
Maroon Dam
Fish being caught up in the creek up on edges on timber – diving crank baits around 3m mark. Small ZX blade lures also effective on bass. Further out in main basin, try the deeper around 15 to 20 foot mark. Again, ZX blade lures very effective.
