Weekend Outlook

For Saturday … the Euro weather model, which we think is the most accurate one, is predicting 5-10kt NW winds early, becoming 10-15kts N/NE during the day … and the BOM is predicting showers and the chance of afternoon and evening storms.

Similar conditions are predicted for Sunday ahead of a weak Southerly change Sunday night.

Based on those predictions, there should be good wind for sailing and boating conditions in offshore and open waters should be choppy but workable for small boats, with the best boating conditions and anchorages in the sheltered waters in the rivers and creeks, from Caloundra to Donnybrook in Pumicestone Passage and in the southern bay from Peel Island to the northern parts of Southport Broadwater.

The swell offshore is expected to be Easterly at 1-1.2m. Based on that, South Passage Bar should be workable with the usual caution required when crossing. We did get this aerial shot of the bar showing the banks and channels a few days ago and if you want to study it … it’s on the Coastwatch Facebook page (use below pic as graphic)

It’s full moon on Saturday night so there’s big mid morning high tides and early morning and late afternoon lows. You can find precise tide times and heights in the drop down fishing menu on the Coastwatch web site

Also on the web site is the latest fishing info for SE Qld, published every Thursday afternoon … and if you’re going surfing or to the beach … I recommend the daily Surf & Beach Report which is published about 5.30  every morning
