Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.55am Thursday 16th May 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: Cloudy with a 90% chance of showers and a top temperature of 2

Wind Forecast: 10kts S/SW early, becoming 10-15kts Southerly during the morning and SE during the day and gusting to 15kts plus

Swell: 0.75-1m E/SE. Smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands, particularly the inner bays at Noosa

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 9.38am … High @ 3.40pm

Snapper Rocks: Low @ 9.17am … High @ 3.26pm

Best waves: With light S/SW winds early, look for small waves on the points and in the bays on the north side of headlands and beach breaks from Maroochydore to Caloundra and Currumbin Coolangatta. If the wind swings Southerly then SE and freshens as forecast, the points and bays on the north side of headlands will be the best options

Best Beaches: With a forecast of a cloudy day, with a high chance of showers and moderate to fresh SE winds, it’s not looking like a good beach day. The beaches offering shelter from the cool winds will be the bays on the north side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay. It won’t be as pleasant on the open stretches of beach and there’s inshore holes and gutters along them. Any rips and sweep working around those features, will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach on the early morning and afternoon ebb tides, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
