Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.45am 18th March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather: The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 70- 80% chance of showers and the chance of a storm and a top temperature of 28-29 degrees

Wind: Winds have been onshore during the night and wind direction is variable this morning due to rain areas, particularly on the Sunshine Coast. It’s forecast to become 10-15kts Easterly during the morning, whether that happens or not depends on showers and rain squalls

Swell: 1.5-2m Easterly on the open beaches, a bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands

Tides: Noosa: High @ 3am & 3.36pm … Low  @ 10.12am … Snapper Rocks: High @ 3.07am & 3.48pm … Low  @ 10.12am

Best waves: With a forecast of easterly winds, the outlook for quality waves isn’t good. There are beach breaks on the open Gold Coast beaches this morning, not so on the Sunshine Coast where the onshore wind is on it. Best options are on the points and in the bays on the north side of headlands.

Best Beaches: Not the best beach day, with frequent showers and rain periods forecast. Winds will be onshore and the best and safest options will be the bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay. From dawn until mid morning and late this afternoon when the tides are ebbing, any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags

In Easterly winds there’s always a chance bluebottles will get blown ashore, so before you go in the water, check along the tide line for them, look for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask a lifeguard if there’s been any about. If you are stung, seek treatment from the beach patrol
