Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.40am 6th March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather:

The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a low chance of showers and a top temperature of 28 degrees

Wind:

Gold Coast: 5-10kts S/SE early, forecast to become 15-20kts SE during the morning

Sunshine Coast: 10-15kts SE early, forecast to become 15-20kts during the morning

Swell:

1-1.5m E/SE on the open beaches, smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands.

Tides:

High: 5am & 5pm … Low 11.45am

Best waves:

It looks like the wind has been onshore during the night and although the forecast is for SE winds today, it could be more SE/E. The beach breaks are messy and there’s small, pretty average waves on the Gold Coast points and in the bays on the north side of headlands.

It’s the same deal on the Sunshine Coast, only worse. The only upside is that although it’s small, bumpy and full now, when the tide falls off during the morning, it could improve, but a lot depends on how much east there is in the wind.

Best Beaches:

SE winds are forecast and in winds from that direction, the bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay offer the best shelter from the wind. Tidal differences are increasing as we approach the New Moon on Sunday night, so on the ebb tide this morning, the water draining off the beach will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters. Use sun protection and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags.
