Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.35am 20th March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather: The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 40-50% chance of showers and a top temperature of 29 degrees

Wind: Light SW/S early, forecast to become 10-15kts E/SE on the Sunshine Coast and 10kts Easterly on the Gold Coast during the morning.

Swell: 1-1.5m Easterly on the open beaches, a bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands

Tides: Mooloolaba: High @ 5.20am & 5.48pm … Low @ 12.09pm … Snapper Rocks: High @ 4.54am & 5.25pm … Low @ 11.38am

Best waves: There’s clean beach breaks on the Gold Coast this morning, but on the Sunshine Coast, they are lumpy and uneven due to last night’s onshore wind. There’s average waves on the points and they are full on the early high tide, but should improve through the morning as the tide falls off and there’s less water on the banks. The inner bays at Noosa are tiny and hardly breaking, but there could be a few sliders on the lower tide. During the day, it once again will depend on how fresh the onshore wind is. If it stays light, there will be average quality, but surfable waves all day

Best Beaches: Along the open stretches of beach, there’s a lot of deep holes and inshore gutters and from dawn until late morning when the tide is ebbing, rips and sweep working in and around those holes and gutters will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach. The safest options for a swim will be in the bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay. Swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags

In onshore winds, there’s always a chance bluebottles will get blown ashore, check along the tide line for them before you go in the water, for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask a lifeguard if there’s been any about. If you are stung, seek treatment from the beach patrol
