Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.30am Wednesday 3rd April 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: A sunny morning with cloud developing during the day. An 80% of afternoon and evening showers and storms on the Gold Coast and a 30% chance of showers on the Sunshine Coast. The top temperature should be 30 degrees

Wind: Light W/NW early, becoming 10kts N/NW this morning and 10-15kts N/NE this afternoon

Swell: 0.5-75m E/NE

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 10.20am … High @ 3.41pm

Snapper Rocks: Low @ 9.56am … High @ 3.37pm

Best waves: The month long run of Southerly winds and point waves came to an end yesterday. The wind has gone NW/NE, the swell is small and lacking power and if you have to drive far for a surf, save the fuel. If you are desperate for waves, the best chance of getting a few will be small beach breaks on the open beaches early while the wind is light W/NW and if it swings N/NE as forecast, on the south side of headlands and Southport Spit.

Best Beaches: Based on the weather forecast, it looks like this morning will be the best time for the beach. It’s school holidays and there’s more people on the beaches than usual, so although the swell is small, keep an eye on family and friends and make sure you swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags. There’s deep holes and inshore gutters along the open stretches of beach and on the morning and late afternoon ebb tides, any rips and sweep working around those holes and gutters will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach
