Bait School Feeding Frenzy

Every year from late autumn into winter bait fish spawn along the Queensland Coast. When they form large schools to do this, predators such as sharks, dolphins, tuna, mackerel and cobia prey on them. There are times when these predators push the bait schools into shallow water using the beach as a barrier. It’s at those times if you’re lucky enough you’ll see a feeding frenzy, an amazing example of the ocean food chain working. This story from the Coastwatch Vault looks at this phenomena of nature
