Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 6am Sunday 12th May 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: A trough is moving toward the coast from the west and there’s showers and possibly storms ahead of and with it. The latest info indicates it’s likely to cross the coast early tomorrow morning, so expect a cloudy day with a high chance of showers and storms. The top temperature should be 23°

Wind Forecast: The trough and associated showers and storms make it hard to accurately predict wind speed and direction. It’s light SW/NW on the Gold Coast and S/SW on the Sunshine Coast this morning. What is does during the day is a bit of a lottery, but whatever direction it comes from it should be light. However, if we get storms there could be stronger wind gusts with them

Swell: 1-1.2m E/SE on the open beaches. A bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands, particularly the inner bays at Noosa

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 5.42am & 4.36pm … High @ 10.54am

Snapper Rocks: Low @ 5.39am & 4.34pm … High @ 11.12am

Best waves: Winds are very light this morning and it’s low tide and there’s waves on the points and beach breaks. Given the uncertainty of the wind direction during the day, it’s hard to suggest where to surf later, but whatever the wind direction is, it should be light

Best Beaches: With a forecast of showers and storms, it’s not looking good for a day at the beach. The bays on the north side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay will be the safest for a swim. There’s inshore holes and gutters along the open stretches of beach and any rips and sweep working around those features, will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach on the afternoon ebb tide, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
