Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.30am 2nd March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather:

The forecast is for a sunny day with a top temperature of 31 degrees

Wind:

5-10kts NW early, forecast to become 10kts N/NE this morning, freshening to 10-15kts this afternoon on the Sunshine Coast and 15-20kts on the Gold Coast

Swell:

0.5-0.75m Easterly

Tides:

Low 6am & 6pm … High: Midday

Best waves:

Small swell lacking power again today. Not much doing but early this morning, while the wind is light NW. Look for beach breaks from Sunshine Beach to Peregian, Yaroomba, Kings Beach Caloundra, Main Beach Point Lookout, Southport Spit to Mermaid Beach and the south side of the headlands at Fingal, Cabarita, Hastings Point and Cape Byron. When the winds swings N/NE and freshens, wave quality will deteriorate

Best Beaches:

Based on the forecast, it should be a nice day at the beach. Best time for a swim will be this morning while the wind is light NW and the tide making. This afternoon with the freshening NE wind, it won’t be as pleasant and the water draining off the beach on the afternoon ebb tide will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters. Use sun protection and despite the small swell, swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags. Check along the tide line for bluebottles before you jump in, look for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas or ask the lifeguards. If you are stung, seek treatment from them
