Wetzstahl Sharpening Steel
Coast Watch Product of the Week is Wetzstahl Sharpening Steel. This is German made and it’s typical German high quality. It’s a knife steel. I love knives, using them for filleting fish and there’s nothing I like more than sharp knives.
You’ve got different things you can sharpen your knives with, a stone and your steel. This one is an industrially diamond coated steel. So, technically, it’s a stone and a steel together. Stones traditionally are for putting the edge on the knife and steels are for honing the edge back on there. This will do both.
So, if you got a dull knife, you can actually work this nice and gently to get the edge back on it, as opposed to using both your stone and your steel. Once you’ve got a good edge on a knife, it’s very easy and a very passive way to just lift and draw your knife over. There’s no hard actions required to get those nice razor edges on it. Having a sharp knife is safer than dull knife. It’s the dull knives that generally jump out and hurt us.
So, if you’re looking for something to get that edge on your knife and keep it on there, while these aren’t the cheapest, they are fantastic. They’re not something that you wear out or you use and throw away. I own one of these myself and love it. It gets used all the time to keep that beautiful razor sharp edge on my knives.
