Over the past 18 months, Josh has accrued a fast growing audience of over 120,000 subscribers via his platform cyclonesoz — built on a reputation for delivering accurate, detailed predictions and coverage — including through recent major weather events.
Josh will deliver a Weekly Weather Outlook Podcast for Coastwatch focussing on Coastal weather conditions (initially for SE QLD). In future podcasts, he will be joined by our existing expert team across boating, fishing, diving, beach and surf — for further coastal leisure recommendations.
Friday (Nov 14)
- Gold Coast & Tweed Heads
- Thunderstorms predicted late morning (10–11 AM), intensifying after 2–3 PM.
- Winds: Light N (5–10 knots), gusts up to 15 knots before storms.
- During storms: Gusts 40–45 knots, seas anticipated to rise quickly.
- Severe storms unlikely here Friday, but still strong gusts.
- Brisbane & Moreton Bay
- Calm early (winds 10–15 knots, seas <1 m).
- Thunderstorms predicted 4:30–5 PM; gusts 40–45 knots.
- Squall lines develop north of Brisbane (Bribie Island) after 5 PM.
- Sunshine Coast & Fraser Coast
- Storms weaken significantly before reaching Noosa.
- Fraser Coast/Hervey Bay: Unlikely to see storms Friday night.
Saturday (Nov 15)
- Morning: Clear skies → strong setup for storms.
- Afternoon: Severe thunderstorms likely (damaging winds, hail, heavy rain).
- Scenic Rim storms start ~2 PM → Gold Coast & Brisbane by 3 PM.
- Initial storms: winds jump from calm to 30–35 knots.
- Evening: Widespread severe storms.
- Gold Coast ~5 PM, Brisbane/Redlands ~5:30–6 PM, Moreton Bay after 6 PM.
- Gusts up to 50 knots (≈90 km/h), large hail possible.
- Sunshine & Fraser Coasts: Minimal coastal impact expected; storms weaken before arrival.
Sunday (Nov 16)
- Early Morning (5–10 AM): Severe thunderstorms possible in Brisbane & Moreton Bay.
- Gusts 30–35 knots, up to 45–50 knots in severe cells.
- Late Morning–Afternoon: Rain persists, winds offshore 25 knots (gusts 35 knots).
- Evening: Rain clears Gold Coast ~6 PM, Brisbane ~9–10 PM; Sunshine & Fraser clear by Monday sunrise.
Predicted Rainfall
- Brisbane & Bribie Island: 50–80 mm, isolated 100 mm.
- Gold Coast Hinterland: Significant falls; coastal Gold Coast 20–40 mm.
- Sunshine Coast south: 50–80 mm; Fraser Coast lighter.
Marine Conditions
- Overall: Potentially unsafe / unpleasant for boating & fishing for a proportion of the weekend.
- Surf: Limited swell; strong winds Sunday.
- Best advice: Avoid open-water marine activities this weekend; next weekend looks much better.
