My Lure Box New Products for Summer
Fishing

Coastwatch’s Dave Macdonald chats with John Costello from My Lure Box to showcase the latest lure designs built for real‑world Australian conditions. From innovative unweighted plastics to the new Shadow Burner pack, John reveals how each lure is engineered to fish straight from the packet and deliver consistent results across species like barra, jacks, bass and flathead. With fresh products on the horizon and a strong focus on practical technique, this conversation shows how My Lure Box continues to refine simple, reliable solutions that catch fish across a wide range of species.

David MacDonald:

Are you planning anything new?

John Costello:

Yeah. There’s lots of stuff coming that I’ve brought to market this year. We can touch on some of that, but I’ve got plans to keep growing this.

It’s a lot of fun to design, prototype and I’ve got a lot of ideas in the pipeline, but do you want to have a look at some of the stuff that I’ve got coming this year?

Part of what I’m trying to do with My Lure Box is put lures in people’s hands that are easy to fish and solve problems that they’ve dealt with in the past. So having lures rigged straight out of the packet is a major piece to that. People don’t want to be rigging like we’ve spoken about.

The Shadow Burner pack comes with five bodies all rigged in different ways and it’s basically a grab and go packet of lures that you can go and fish any dam or estuary and have options for changing conditions and it’s built tough to handle any Australian fish.

Right from Barra with big hook exposure down to Bass, Saratoga, Mangrove Jack and Travali in the creeks and estuaries.

And there’s some really cool stuff going on in here, innovative stuff.

So if you if you look at that little lure there, that is an unweighted or nude plastic that’s only weighted with the hooks that hold it. There’s no lead in that. And that allows the lure to slowly sink at a rate like unlike anything else on the market. So unweighted plastics for fish that have seen a lot of jig heads pulling plastics around like that when they drop. That’s part of what sets these levels apart.

Being able to throw something into a snag or slow roll it over a weed bed, something like that. These are absolutely fire. Some of the most fun fishing I’ve had is with these nude and unweighted plastics.

They come in the packet as well as all these different weighted systems so that you can hand that to your kids and they’re going to have no problems casting it.

Or you can throw that at a barramundi and a dam and you’ve got no problems turning it, even with a tiny little profile like that. Okay, perfectly rigged in the packet.

David MacDonald:

I have to say, that looks amazing. It looks so realistic.

You know, I can only imagine it would fool most fish.

John Costello:

Yeah, So I’ve caught I’ve caught bath Saratoga, flathead I’ve caught barra on this thing and it’s built strong like the tiny little hooks are still strong enough to turn a really big barra. And look, the other thing I’ve tried to solve for, some people getting into lure fishing need a little bit of confidence or some pointers to get them started.

Some tips like we’ve been talking about. Every pack I release has a half an hour video at the top on how to use the lure, what gear to use, where you want to go, when do you want to fish these lures to give you the confidence to go and do it. And there’s action in there as well to prove that they work. In our local waters too.

David MacDonald:

Have you got anything else coming that’s in the pipeline?

John Costello:

Yeah, yeah, there’s lots of products coming and most of it’s going to land just before summer I think.

So stuff for a whole range of species. Barramundi, mangrove, jack, I’ve got stuff for bass fishermen and trivalli, a lot of estuary stuff. Really innovative creations too.

So there’s some jig heads coming, lots of cool stuff in the pipeline.

David MacDonald:

Wow, it’s definitely grown from just a flathead and Jack lure.

John Costello:

Yeah

David MacDonald:

Covering all bases.

John Costello:

Yeah, it’s exciting, mate. It’s growing.

David MacDonald:

All right. We’ll leave it there. Thanks very much. I really appreciate it.

John Costello:

Thanks for stopping by, Dave.

David MacDonald:

If you haven’t seen, I’m sure you have, but if you haven’t, check out My Lure Box. On the Socials. He’s got a heap of videos out that have really, really good information and techniques.

I think that’s the key, the technique.  A lot of people miss out just by not paying attention to the small little details.

Amazing lures. go check them out.
