Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.55am Tuesday 28th May 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: The BOM is forecasting a partly cloudy day, with a medium chance of showers on the Gold Coast and a higher chance on the Sunshine Coast, with a top temperature of 23°. The BOM’s forecasts regarding shower activity have been very ordinary lately, so it remains to be seen if they got it right for today

Wind Forecast: 5-10kts S/SW early, tending S/SE during the morning

Swell: Not much change for the past week. 0.75-1m E/SE on the northern ends of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and along the Tweed Coast. A bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands and almost flat around high tide and tiny around low tide in the inner bays at Noosa

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 6.01am & 5pm … High @ 11.19am

Snapper Rocks: Low @ 5.48am & 4.56pm … High @ 11.22am

Best waves: With light S/SW winds early, forecast to become S/SE during the day, look for small waves on the points. Either side of the late morning high tide, they’ll be a bit full, but should be better early this morning and mid to late afternoon on the lower part of the tides, when there’s less water on the banks. You could hunt for beach breaks along the open beaches, particularly from Maroochydore to Caloundra and Currumbin to Coolangatta

Best Beaches: The BOM weather forecast indicates it should be a mixed bag for the beach. The predicted SW/SE winds will be chilly and the best beaches offering shelter in winds from that direction are the bays on the north side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay. There’s inshore holes and gutters along the open stretches of beach and any rips and sweep working around those features, will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach on the late morning to afternoon ebb tide, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
