Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.45am Sunday 7th April 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: A trough is laying along or just offshore of the central and southern Qld Coast. It’s expected to move seaward through the day and showers and storms associated with it should clear. The top temperature should be 27 degrees

Wind Forecast: Due to the slow movement of the trough and associated showers and storms, wind speed and direction will be hard to predict today. The best the BOM can come up with is light and variable. It looks like in the past couple of hours the wind has gone from light, to moderate to fresh N/NE, but that could be associated with the showers and rain we had last night and are getting this morning. Sorry we can’t be more specific, but it’s tricky to predict in the current conditions. Have to wait and see what happens during the day

Swell: 1-1.5m Easterly

Tides: Mooloolaba: High @ 6.53am & 7.18pm … Low @ 1.17pm

Snapper Rocks: High @ 6.55am & 7.24pm … Low @ 1.18pm

Best waves: With the wind being N/NE this morning, the points are messy and the best option will be to look for beach breaks on the south side of headlands and Southport Spit. If the wind does go light and variable through the day, it’ll be a matter of seeing what direction it is and looking around for where the cleanest waves are

Best Beaches: With showers and a chance of storms this morning, predicted to clear through the afternoon, it’ll be a mixed day for the beach. It’s new moon next Tuesday night and tidal differences have increased. There are inshore holes and gutters along the beaches, particularly the open stretches and on the ebb tide from mid morning to early afternoon, any rips and sweep working around those holes and gutters will be enhanced, as the extra volume of water drains off the beach. Make sure you swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
