Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.45am Saturday 20th April 2024
Weather Forecast: Partly cloudy with a 95% chance of rain, most likely in the afternoon and evening. The top temperatures should be 23° on the Gold Coast and 25° on the Sunshine Coast
Wind Forecast: Light S/SW early, forecast to become 15-20kts S/SE this morning, tending SE during the day
Swell: 0.5-1m Easterly, possibly becoming SE/E and increasing a bit through the day
Tides: Mooloolaba: High @ 5.57am & 6.32pm … Low @ 12.24pm
Snapper Rocks: High @ 5.39am & 6.19pm … Low @ 12.08pm
Best waves: The swell is small and lacking power this morning and with light S/SW winds early, it might be worth looking for beach breaks on the open beaches, but given the forecast of fresh S/SE winds, it looks like a day for the points, which will be a bit full this morning on the high tide, but improve as the tide falls off.
Best Beaches: Based on the weather forecasts, it looks like being a cloudy morning, with a very high chance of rain this afternoon, so not great beach weather. In the forecast fresh S/SE, the bays on the north side of the headlands at Noosa, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay will be the best beaches. The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships are being held between Maroochydore and Mooloolaba and will continue through the weekend. Unless you want to watch the competition, it might be best to avoid those beaches as there’s be a lot going on and parking will be more difficult than usual
It will be full moon next Tuesday night and tidal differences are increasing. There’s inshore holes and gutters along the beaches, particularly along the open stretches and on the morning ebb tide, any rips and sweep working around those holes and gutters will be enhanced as the increased volume of water drains off the beach, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
