Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Updated at 8am 3rd March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather:

The forecast is for a mostly sunny morning on the Sunshine Coast and partly cloudy on the Gold Coast. A weak southerly change, which was on the northern NSW coast earlier, looks like it has pushed through the Gold Coast earlier than expected and is now moving through Moreton Bay. If it keeps moving north at the same speed it should be on the Sunshine Coast in the next couple of hours. Showers and storms are forecast with the change. Top temperatures are forecast to be 30 degrees on the Gold Coast and 32 on the Sunshine Coast

Wind:

Light SE on the Gold Coast and should increase to 10-15kts during the day, but nothing is certain. 5-10kts N/NW on the Sunshine Coast and depending on the movement of the southerly change, should swing SE in the next couple of hours

Swell:

0.5-0.75m E/NE

Tides:

Low 7.15am & 6.45pm … High: 12.45pm

Best waves:

The swell is still small and lacking power. Now the wind has swung SE on the Gold Coast, there’s small ones on the points. On the Sunshine Coast, with the wind being light N/NW, look for beach breaks from Sunshine Beach to Peregian, Yaroomba, Kings Beach Caloundra. If the SE change makes it though during the day, there might be a few small ones on the points

Best Beaches:

The best time for a swim will be this morning while the wind is light and the tide making. This afternoon on the ebb tide, the water draining off the beach will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters. Use sun protection and despite the small swell, swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags. Check along the tide line for bluebottles before you jump in, look for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask the lifeguards. If you are stung, seek treatment from them
