Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.40am 12th March 2024
Weather:
The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 40% chance of showers on the Gold Coast and a 70% chance on the Sunshine Coast and a top temperature of 29 degrees
Wind:
15-20kts SE this morning, freshening to 20kts plus during the day. Lighter S/SE on the Gold Coast early
Swell:
2-2.5m Easterly on the open beaches. Smaller in the inner bays on the northern side of headlands, particularly at Noosa
Tides:
High: 9.30am … Low 3.45pm
Best waves:
The swell is still pumping and fresh to strong SE winds again today mean the open beaches are too messy and the points and bays on the north side of headlands are the places that have the cleanest conditions. On the Gold Coast, Snapper Rock to Kirra are the best and on the Sunshine Coast, the cleanest waves are at Noosa, although it’s smaller in the inner bays. There’s a lot of water pushing around and it’s not for beginners.
The big tides of the past few days are slowly decreasing, but with a still sizeable mid morning high, most breaks will become too full as we near the top of the tide. When the tide falls off during the day, there’ll be less water on the banks and wave quality will improve. The Noosa Festival of Surfing is on for the rest of this week, so there’ll be a lot happening at Main Beach and First Point
Best Beaches:
With the big swell and big tides, there’s a lot of water pushing around and swimming in the surf is potentially dangerous. Some beaches will be closed and it’s important to not to go in the water if they are. If they are open, don’t go in unless you are a strong swimmer and if you do, don’t go out of your depth and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
