Fishing Report for 13th November 2025
Hervey Bay / Fraser Island
Up at Fraser Island from Orchard Beach to Indian Head, Whiting and some quality Tailor are being caught, though numbers are low. Most Tailor are taking Halco Twisties or gang-hooked Pillie’s. Offshore past Breaksea, deep-drop fishing is producing Ruby Snapper, Snapper, Bar Cod, and Pearl Perch. Numbers aren’t huge, but some good-sized fish are coming through. Sailfish are taking larger skirts in 100 to 200 metres of water, with a few larger Blue Marlin starting to appear.
Inside Fraser Island, strong northerlies have kept many anglers off the water, but those able to get out have caught small Juvenile Black Marlin around Rooneys. Longtail Tuna and Mack Tuna have started biting throughout the bay, from Six Mile up to Rooneys and Wathumba, and down the straights around Big Woody, The Pickins, and Kingfisher, with fish up to 8–10kg. Flathead, Whiting, Grunter, and Coral Trout are active in the close in reefs and down the straits. The pier has been fishing very well with the occasional larger Longtail Tuna and plenty of sharks. Herring are back in good numbers, while Flathead, Whiting, and Bream continue to perform well.

Tin Can Bay
The Bay continues to fish very well this week, and with the new moon approaching, the Whiting are expected to really start feeding. Top spots for a feed of Whiting include the flats from Teebar Creek up to Big Mick and down to Kurai Creek. Freshly pumped Yabbies or locally caught Beach Worms are working best. For something different, Samaki Skipping Prawns are proving effective for a surface bite.
Mangrove Jack are active as the days warm up, with solid catches reported from creeks throughout the Bay. Snapper Creek has been fishing particularly well over the past couple of weeks, including some fish around the 60cm mark. Four to six-inch prawn lures and skipping paddle tails like the Molix 4.5 RT Shad have been especially effective, with live baits also producing good results. Estuary Cod are commonly caught as bycatch.
Flathead are worth targeting on the morning low tide, with Series Ledge, the mouth of Alligator Creek, and Teebar Creek all producing good results.

Mooloolaba
Out at the Outer Gneerings, Spanish Mackerel are being caught on trolled hardbody lures. Murphy’s Reef is producing Cobia and Grassy Sweetlip, while Caloundra Wide has seen some quality Snapper and Pearl Perch coming from around the 80-metre mark. The Barwon Banks are holding the odd Wahoo and smaller Spanish Mackerel, with a few Dolphin Fish showing around the 18-mile grounds.
Along the beaches at Kawana, Flathead are being caught in the gutters. In the Mooloolah River, Mangrove Jack around the 55–60cm have been taken near the pontoons, with Trevally active around the trawler docks. Mud Crabs are starting to appear in the Maroochy River.

Caloundra
It’s been a bit quiet, though Trevally are being caught off the boardwalk and around the mouth of Pelican Canals. Mangrove Jack are showing up in the canals, and off Military Jetty. There’s been Sweetlip and Squire taken on the coffee rock out the front. Mud Crabs have started moving in the creeks.
There are still a few Flathead and Whiting about from the mouth of Bells Creek and Coochin Creek, with some Grunter also caught around the mouth of Bells Creek. Offshore, one angler landed a Marlin while trolling a Bonito.

Northern Moreton Bay
Offshore fishing has been solid this week, with Spanish Mackerel caught around Hutchies on trolled hardbody lures and surface stickbaits. A few Black Marlin have been showing up in the Trench off North Moreton. Good Snapper are still being caught around the North Moreton artificial reef, and inside areas such as Bulwer and Cowan Ledge are producing well. Around Scarborough and Woody Point, anglers are finding Grunter, Jewfish and Snapper on lightly weighted soft plastics.
In the Pine River, Flathead are being caught near the mouth on the run-out tide, while the Caboolture River has also produced Flathead and some quality Summer Whiting around Bakers Flat. The upper reaches of the Caboolture River and Pumicestone Passage are holding Mangrove Jacks. Mud Crabs are active with the bigger tides this weekend, especially in the middle to upper reaches of the creeks and rivers, where most spots are crabbing well.

Sandgate/Shorncliffe Pier
Flathead are active along the Brighton waterfront and Hayes Inlet, mostly around 40cm and suitable for catch and release, with lures working well. Shorncliffe Pier produced fast action on Monday, including a 55cm Flathead and Bream to 28–29cm taken on Bream Bites or Blue Baits, with possible Trevally bust-ups. Tuskfish are being caught as well out in the bay, which included a 10.5kg fish and another slightly smaller. The Pine River has been a bit slow with the fresh water still moving through it but conditions are expected to improve for weekend fishing.

Brisbane River
Mackerel activity has shifted to the eastern side of the bay after the wind and big tides dirtied up the western side. Cleaner water has produced Mackerel from South Tangalooma through to the Shark Spit and Blue Hole, down to Harris and Hope Banks. School Mackerel are taking trolled lures, casted metal slugs, and floating Pillies.
Sweetlip are being caught around Green Island, Wellington Point, and Mud Island. The rivers have been quieter, with only a few reports of Bream, the odd Tailor still about, and Whiting at the mouth and along the eastern side of Fisherman’s Island.
Jewfish and Threadfin were quiet last week but should improve with the tide changes, with the mouth of the Port of Brisbane worth a try. Sand Crabs are being caught out the front from Lota through to Manly Harbour, Wynnum Creek, Wellington Point, and Green Island, with a few Mud Crabs also showing up in the mangroves.

Moreton Bay/ Jumpinpin
Not much opportunity to get on the water this week in Moreton Bay with the wind up again, but when conditions have allowed, there were some solid catches. Sweetlip and Snapper have been taken off Wellington Point and Cleveland, mainly around rubble patches and drop-offs in 4–5 metres of water. Lightly weighted plastics worked across the ledges have been doing well. Around Peel Island, a few good Squire and Snapper are still being caught by working the bait along the reef edges.
Further south, quality Jewfish are holding around the Saltworks and Macleay Island areas, with Threadfin Salmon and Trevally active through the Russell and Long Island channels. Sounders have been key for locating these moving schools.
Jumpinpin continues to fish well, particularly in deeper water, with Jewfish up to around a metre caught around the bar on tide changes, along with some good-sized Flathead.
As the tide runs out and the water dirties, targeting bait along the bank edges and cleaner pockets has been productive for Flathead. There are also plenty of Bream feeding around the moorings at Jacobs Well crankbaits and lightly weighted plastics cast tight to the boats are getting results. Whiting are active in the lagoons on the northern end of South Stradbroke and on Gold Bank. Threadfin are still about, though moving with the tides. Using side-scan to locate them around Jacobs Well Channel and between Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree Point has paid off for those putting in the time.

Jumpinpin
Whiting have been caught off the Lagoon at the top of South Straddie, the Pig Styes, and the Gold Bank. Good Bream have been taken along Kalinga Bank, the Dead Tree, and Cobby Rocks. Flathead are active north of Eden Island, at the bottom of Kangaroo Island, and around Cabbage Tree Point.

Mangrove Jack are starting to fire up for the summer months, with solid early-season fish around 45–50cm being caught, along with plenty of smaller fish. Whiting have been feeding well on the big tides over the past week, taking live Bloodworm or live Yabby drifting across the sandflats. Flathead are active around the pin, taking lures, deadbait, and live baits, while smaller Jewfish are being caught in the pin bar, mostly during daylight hours.

South Stradbroke Island
Some large Flathead are being caught around Rat Island at the mouth of the southern branch of the Coomera River. Summer Whiting are active along the western edge of Wavebreak Island. Big Javelin Fish are coming from the Aldershots, while Trevally are being caught along the western sides of Sovereign and Ephraim Islands.

Gold Coast Broadwater
Not looking great this weekend, with showers and storms forecast for both afternoons. If you’re still keen, early Saturday morning will probably be best for wind and tide, though you’ll still be dodging the rain. Depending on how much rain we get, a small flush out could get the whiting feeding. They were caught from the council chambers to the bank south of Wavebreak Island.
If you’re heading past the Southport Yacht Club, be aware of the restrictions from 6am to 6pm. Flathead are still in the usual spots along South Stradbroke, Crab Island, and Tipplers. Sand crabs have definitely increased in numbers, with some large ones mixed in. This bit of rain should get the mudcrabs moving, making them worth chasing on the bigger high tide.
Depending on swell size, the beaches look good, with numerous small gutters along Main Beach and South Stradbroke, and the winds will be offshore. Beach worms or pippies will catch bream, whiting, and dart in the shallow gutters, especially on the incoming tide.

Southport
Dolphin Fish have started showing up around the FADs, and there are still good catches of Snapper and Pearl Perch coming from the closer reefs. Inside, Whiting are being taken on worms along the sandbanks around Wave Break, and some good-size Flathead are being caught up around Crab Island and the Alder shots.
Plenty of Mullet was sold for bait last week, which usually means the Crabs are on the move. With more rain forecast over the weekend, they should start firing properly next week. The rivers have been quiet with the dirty water from recent rain,

Pearl Perch, Jewfish, Cobia, Snapper, and Cod are being caught along the 24, 26, and 36-fathom lines off the Gold Coast.

Tweed Coast
Over the weekend, the 30s and 24s fished well on Saturday despite rough conditions, but Sunday was slower, likely due to the full moon. On Tuesday, the 40s east of Kingscliff produced good catches of Tuskfish and Snapper.

From Tweed down through the Brunswick and to Southport, Whiting are biting well on the high tides. Fresh worms, pippies, and other natural baits are producing most of the catches, with Flathead also taking baits on the top of the tide when the water is clean. Along the rock walls, Mangrove Jack, Estuary Cod, and Trevally are being caught. Mud Crabs are starting to move, with several solid reports coming in.
Off the headlands, Tailor are still showing, with the occasional Longtail Tuna while the Jewfish have been quieter this week. Spanish Mackerel are slow to arrive close in, though a few Spotted Mackerel have been recorded. Snapper, Pearl Perch, and Parrot Fish are coming from the 36 to 50-fathom lines. Further out, Striped Marlin and Blue Marlin are starting to show at the 100-metre line and beyond.

Brunswick Heads
Offshore, there are plenty of quality Kingfish with a few Snapper mixed in. Beaches are producing Bream, Tarwhine, Flathead, Dart, and Whiting. Rock walls have a few good-sized Jewfish. Rivers are fishing well, with Flathead, Bream, Jacks, Blackfish, and Whiting taking baits. A few Mud Crabs are also being caught.x

Ballina
The weather over the next few days looks unsteady, with rain and wind expected. Earlier in the week, the 32-fathom line produced a mix of species, and the 42s yielded a few quality Pearl Perch. Several boats targeting Yellowfin Tuna managed to land one or two trolling.
Beaches have been quieter, with only occasional reports of Flathead, Bream, and Tailor. River tides were better earlier in the week but are dropping off heading into the weekend. The lower reaches of the river are producing the best numbers of Flathead, while larger fish are coming from deeper channels. Live baits and large soft plastics remain the most effective.
Bream are spread from Wardell to Woodburn, taking mullet, prawns, and squid. Mud Crabs are active in this area, with captures reported more consistently at night. Whiting and Jacks have been quieter, likely due to weather and smaller tides, but activity is expected to improve next week.
With the weekend weather, Bass fishing could be a good option using surface lures early in the morning, switching to cranks or chatterbaits later in the day.

Evans Head
Off Air Force Beach, there have been a few good Jewfish caught in the mornings and evenings around the recent full moon, along with some Tailor still hanging about and the odd Bream and Flathead. Along the north and south rock walls, Bream, Flathead, Whiting, and a few Jewfish have been taken in the evenings.
Upstream, Mud Crabs are still about, and with the warmer weather, a few Mangrove Jack have started to show up, along with the usual Bream and Flathead. Offshore around Chaos Reef, anglers have been finding good Snapper, Trag, Pearl Perch, and Jewfish.

Yamba
The river is still fishing well with Bream, Flathead, Whiting, and plenty of quality Mangrove Jack being caught. Bass fishing further upriver has also been strong, with one angler landing a 60cm fish up in the gorge above Grafton, a solid catch for that area. Crabbing has been hit and miss lately, with not many recent reports coming through.
Offshore, there are still some Snapper and Pearl Perch being caught, though windy conditions have made it difficult to get out. A few Kingfish are still being taken further south, but there haven’t been many reports of Mackerel, and the Tuna have slowed right down, suggesting they may have moved on.

FRESHWATER FISHING
Wivenhoe Dam
Wivenhoe Dam has been fishing well, with Bass being caught around the main basin from Billy’s Bay through to Hammond Cove. Fish are holding along the cliffs, rocky points, and all the way to the buoy line near the dam wall, with others scattered across the riverbed in about 50 to 60 feet of water. Spinnerbaits and reaction baits like TN60s, lipless crankbaits, and crankbaits are working along the edges, while metal spoons in the 30 to 40 gram range are best for the deeper schools.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Moogerah Dam
Moogerah Dam has been fishing reasonably well. It’s been quieter over the past couple of weeks, but there are still fish about. Soft plastic paddle tails slow-rolled along the bottom and metal spoons in the deeper water are producing. Fish often stack up around the edges overnight, so try reaction baits like chatterbaits and lipless crankbaits. Spinnerbaits around the standing timber are also worth throwing, as Bass tend to hold around the trees.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Maroon Dam
At Maroon Dam, fishing has been a little tough, but Bass are still being caught on small soft plastic paddle tails worked along the edges and in the deeper water around the main basin. Up the back of the creeks is also worth a look. Early morning and late afternoon are good for surface action using poppers, stickbaits, and surface frogs, especially when there’s insect activity.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Lake Kurwongbah/ North Pine Dam
At Lake Kurwongbah, Bass and Saratoga have been taking surface lures early and late in the day, particularly up in the skinnier arms. North Pine Dam has been fishing well too, with Bass found on the deeper points.
| Tackleworld Lawnton

North Pine Dam
At North Pine Dam, some quality fish are still coming from the banks, though it takes a bit of walking to find them. Spinnerbaits, metal spoons, and soft plastics rolled off the edges are getting results, particularly early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Lake Kurwongbah
Lake Kurwongbah has been consistent, with Bass and the occasional Saratoga caught along the weed edges. Metal blades, jerkbaits, chatterbaits, and lipless crankbaits are all working well. Getting there early pays off, with a solid topwater bite on poppers and surface lures across the weed beds.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Lake Monduran
Lake Monduran has been producing quality Barramundi, particularly on 6-inch Panic Station lures.
| Tackleworld Kawana Ph (07) 5444 0714 | www.tackleworldkawanafishingstore.com.au |
Hinze Dam
Hinze Dam has fished well. One report mentioned around 48 Bass caught, most looking like solid fish. Live Shrimp have been working best. Those catches were coming from the eastern side, and it seems the eastern ramp has reopened after being closed last week.
| Gold Coast Fishing Tackle Ph (07) 5679 0840 | www.goldcoastfishingtackle.com.au |
Lake Monduran
Lake Monduran is fishing extremely well for Bass, particularly utilising live scope, trolling hardbodies in the main basin, and larger swimbaits in the 6–8 inch range.
