Hervey Bay / Fraser Island
At Urangan Pier, Herring and Pike are thick, with School Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Longtail Tuna, Jewfish, and Tarpon also about. Whiting are biting best at night or on the full-moon tides. Around the Shelley Beach Groynes, Whiting have been around. Whiting fishing has been best at night, though onshore winds can fire up the morning bite.
At the Urangan Harbour rock walls, small Jewfish, Bream, and Flathead are being taken. River Heads has been fishing well for Tailor, School Mackerel, Broad-barred Mackerel, Flathead, Blue Salmon, and Herring. In the Great Sandy Straits, the flats and creeks are producing Blue Salmon, Queenfish, Trevally, and Grunter.
On Fraser Island’s west coasts jetties, Jewfish, Bream, Flathead, Mackerel, and Longtail Tuna are active. Platypus Bay and the northern bay islands are fishing well for Golden Trevally, Queenfish, Longtail, Cod, and Coral Trout. Fraser Island’s gutters and headlands, including the Cathedrals and southern sector, are producing Tailor, Dart, Whiting, Jewfish, Bream, and Tarwhine.

Tin Can Bay
Pelagic species have been active around Big Mick and the Barge Landing, with Longtail Tuna and School Mackerel keeping anglers busy. Spanish Mackerel are also showing well in the Great Sandy Straits.
Summer Whiting are abundant around Ida Island and down near Cockatoo Island, with live yabbies and local beach worms producing the best results. Norman Point is also giving up some good Whiting on the incoming tide.
Tailor are being caught in fair numbers when trolling small diving hardbodies on the making tide, and casting slugs off the beach is another effective way to get a feed. Flathead continue to be active, with soft plastic prawns and grub-tail plastics working well. Fishing the last of the runout tide and targeting drains off the flats is producing consistent results.

Whiting are the standout right across the passage. Offshore has been quieter with fewer boats out, but Snapper and Pearl Perch have been caught around 12 Mile and Caloundra Wide. Tailor are still in the surf at Happy Valley and Shelly Beach. Flathead are showing around both bars, while Trevally are active in the canals and a few Mangrove Jack are starting to bite. Mud Crabs are also being potted in the creeks.

Northern Moreton Bay
In the Brisbane River, Jewfish and Threadfin Salmon are being caught at night around the port terminals, with vibes working well. Snapper are being taken along the front Rockwall, and Bream are starting to move back into the system, particularly along the front Rockwall. In the Pine River, plenty of Whiting in the 30 to 40cm range are being reported. Bream are a little slow, but with effort, good catches are still possible.
A few Jewfish are still coming from around the bridges in the Pine River, while Flathead are holding toward the river mouth and in the deeper holes. Trevally are being caught in the mid-section of the Pine River, with Queenfish appearing late afternoon or early morning. Large Bream and Whiting are being reported around the river mouth, particularly up near King Johns Creek, along with some Jewfish.
In the passage, good numbers of Whiting and Bream are being caught on the flats, and Mangrove Jack are starting to turn up in the canals and creeks. Red Beach is producing good Whiting. Bass are being seen in the upper reaches of both the North and South Pine Rivers and the upper Caboolture River.

Moreton Bay/ Jumpinpin
Moreton Bay is fishing well as water temperatures rise. The bigger tides are now moving into the day, which has the shallow reefs firing. Good Snapper are coming from the front of Raby Bay and Wellington Point along the drop-off ledges, and both North and South Peel Island are producing, depending on wind direction. Harrie Atkins Artificial Reef is holding some quality fish, and the southern bay, from Macleay Island to Lamb and Garden Islands have all been producing good-sized Flathead. Tailor and Threadfin Salmon are still active in the channels around Long Island, Russell Island, Lamb Islands, and Karragarra Island
Jumpin Pin is fishing very well with the massive influx of whitebait, attracting plenty of Tailor in the 40 to 60cm range. Flathead are moving into deeper water to spawn, producing some large, quality fish alongside high numbers of smaller ones. Good Flathead, Tailor, and Jewfish up to 1 metre are being caught from the Pin Bar through to Kalinga bank on the incoming tide and start of the runout tide, with plenty still around Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree Point.
On low tide, Flathead are active around Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree Point as long as bait schools in the shallows are targeted. The key is to find bait, with loose baits producing well. Threadfin Salmon and schooling Jewfish are following where seabirds are working, making it worth checking spots like the Five Ways, Tiger Mullet Channel, and Mackenzies for both bait and larger predatory fish.

The warmer weather this week has lifted water temperatures, bringing in the early summer species. Mangrove Jack are starting to show, decent-sized but requiring some effort to catch. Tailor are present in solid sizes, with some over 60 to 70cm, though numbers remain low. Jewfish are tapering off, but good fish are still being caught on live baits. Flathead are cruising in good sizes and numbers, and are expected to start moving toward the bar at this time of year.

Gold Coast Broadwater
A few showers Saturday, but overall a good weekend ahead with light winds. Tides are great for whiting during the middle part of the day, with the last half of the run being the best time to target them. They have been on the banks from Wavebreak to the south, on the end of Crab Island, and from the green to the boat ramp at the Broadwater Parklands. Drifting or wading the banks will be the most effective methods, but if you find a patch, don’t be afraid to anchor up.
Flathead have been caught everywhere, with great numbers being reported. Bigger fish are definitely being caught in better numbers in the deep, but those targeting the banks and drains are still getting good numbers of decent fish up to 60cm. The best tide will be early morning, with low tide around 7am.
The surf is also fishing extremely well, with tailor still in good numbers and great quality up to 60cm. Best times are definitely at dusk and early morning, even before first light. Although they are in full swing at K’gari, they are still down here and yet to spawn, which indicates they are still on their way north.
Bream, flathead, whiting, and dart are also being caught in the same gutters during the day. The Seaway will have great tides to fish early in the morning. Across the turn and the first of the run in is probably best.

Southport
Offshore, Snapper, Pearl Perch, and Longtail Tuna are being caught using bait, pillies, and live baits, along with mixed reef species including Moses Perch, Tuskfish, Blue Spot Flounder and an impressive 60cm Pearl Perch was taken from the 36 fathoms area. While inshore, Flounder and Tailor are active on a variety of lures.

Yellowfin Tuna are active in the 800 to 1,200-metre canyons offshore, with some Stripe Marlin and Blue Marlin also showing. Back around the 80- to 200-metre line, Kingfish, Amberjack, and Samson Fish are being caught, along with Pearl Perch and medium-sized Snapper. Closer in around the 50-fathom line, there are good numbers of Longtail Tuna, Snapper, and Cobia.
On the 18-fathom line, a few Spanish Mackerel are still about, with Cobia, Silver Dew, and quality Snapper being taken. Inside the seaway, plenty of School Dew are showing along the pipe and northern wall, and good numbers of Jewfish are being caught at the Jumpinpin Bar.
The northern part of the bay is holding good numbers of Bream and Flathead along the upper Gold Banks and slipping sands, with large amounts of Flathead reported. Mud Crabs are present in the rivers, though numbers remain low. Whiting are being caught at Council Chambers and throughout the Narang and Pimpama Rivers. Garfish remain active in the Broadwater, and Squid are still available in good numbers.

Tweed Coast
At the Tweed River rock walls, Tailor are well set up, taking pilchards rigged on gangs and metal slugs. The odd Spanish Mackerel is also being picked up from the rocks while chasing tailor.
Inside the river, Bream remain active along the rock walls from the bar up past Chinderra Bridge and around Barneys Point. Flathead numbers are increasing, with bigger breeding fish starting to show. Whiting are being caught in the deeper, cleaner water, mainly on yabbies and worms, while surface lures are yet to fire. The cleanest water gives the best chance for a bite. Jewfish are still active in the river, with fish between 50 and 80 centimetres. Larger Jewfish are being taken from breakwalls and rubble grounds from Tweed down towards Evans Head, with soft plastic paddle tails or mullet flaps working well.
Offshore, from the 24s through to the 50s, Snapper are holding, with current helping keep them feeding. The best bite has been at first light on the bottom, with bigger fish caught early, then later in the morning floating baits down as the fish move higher in the water column. Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo are around the 9 Mile FADs, while other reefs are producing Pearl Perch and Snapper.
The Kingfish season is underway, with some excellent fish coming from the 50- to 70-fathom line, caught on jigs and live baits.

Brunswick Heads
Deep sea fishing is producing plenty of Snapper, Trag, Pearl Perch, and Kingfish out in the 50-fathom grounds when wind and swell allow. Along the beaches and rock walls, Dart, Bream, Blackfish, and Flathead are being caught. Rivers are holding Bream, Blackfish, Whiting, and Flathead, while Mud Crabs are just starting to turn up.

Evans Head
Along Airforce Beach and Main Beach, Tailor and Jewfish are worth targeting in the mornings and evenings, while during the day Dart, Bream, Flathead, and the odd Whiting are about. Around the North and South break walls, Flathead, Bream, and Luderick are still being caught. Further upstream, Whiting are active along with some Mud Crabs. Offshore at Chaos Reef, Snapper and Trag are fishing well.
| Evans Head Sports & Marine Ph (02) 6682 4536 | www.facebook.com/EvansheadSportsMarine |
Yamba
The river is fishing even better as the water clears, with more good reports coming in. Flathead are holding well at the moment, including a 70cm Flathead caught on a hardbody lure. A few Whiting have started to show, mostly smaller fish. Bream remain active around the walls and are likely moving into the rivers as well. A few crabs have been caught, though numbers are still low. Offshore, despite the wind picking up, anglers have found some good action around just outside the bar on the reef there, landing a few quality Jew fish on jigs, and there are still Snapper in the southern grounds. Overall, fishing remains strong both inshore and offshore.

FRESHWATER FISHING
Hinze Dam
At Hinze Dam, bait fishing with live shrimp hard along the trees have been producing Bass, the occasional Yellowbelly, and Silver Perch. Warmer conditions over the next four to six weeks are expected to improve fishing, with the potential for more Saratoga to become active as water temperatures rise.
| Gold Coast Fishing Tackle Ph (07) 5679 0840 | www.goldcoastfishingtackle.com.au |
Moogerah Dam
At Moogera Dam, the fish are holding around the spit in deeper water. Metal spoons in the 20 to 30 gram range are working well, along with soft plastics on a half-ounce jighead, 3 to 4-inch paddle tails slow-rolled along the bottom. Big Bass are active, and chatterbaits are effective this time of year. Lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits along the edges, around trees and timber, are also producing as the fish move about looking for food.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Maroon Dam
At Maroon Dam, surface bites are starting early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Small creature baits, poppers, and spinnerbaits around timber edges are working well. In deeper water, soft plastics slow-rolled on the bottom and metal blades are catching Bass effectively.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Kurwongbah
At Kurwongbah, the Saratoga bite has been quiet, though early morning and late afternoon along the edges can produce results. Bass are being caught off the points using vibes and spinnerbaits.
| Tackleworld Lawnton
Ph (07) 3205 7475 | www.facebook.com/tackleworldlawnton |
Lake Samsonvale/North Pine Dam
At Lake Samsonvale/North Pine Dam, soft plastics are best for deeper schooled fish, with metal spoons also taking catches. Three-inch paddle tails on a heavy jighead, slow-rolled along the bottom, are working well early and late in the day. Spinnerbaits along the edges and metal spoons slowly rolled along drop-offs are also producing.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Lake Kurwongbah
At Lake Kurwongbah, the smaller of the two dams is fishing well. Small blades along weed edges, soft plastics, and chatterbaits are effective. The bigger Saratoga are more active this time of year, so light-coloured spinnerbaits around 3/8 ounce in the bays, along with small soft plastics slow-rolled off edges, are attracting attention.
