Fishing Report 13 February 2026
PLEASE NOTE THE NEXT REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 21 FEBRUARY WILL BE PUBLISHED LATER THAN USUAL. WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.
Hervey Bay / Fraser Island
Good numbers of grunter caught along the beaches. Spotted mackerel up the Island in Platypus Bay. The Inshore Reef fishing has been good, with sweetlip and cod dominating, but sharks are making quick work of anything a decent size. Pelagics are at the Urangan pier – in particular queenfish and giant trevally — but there has been a lack of bait, so it has been quieter than usual.
Blue salmon and flathead are being caught in the local estuaries through the Mary and Burrum Systems. Prawns are also starting to show up in both the Mary and Burrum and are growing every week. Crabbing has been good everywhere and we anticipate this will only improve with the current rains.

Tin Can Bay
With tides staring to build from today and looming thunder-storms this weekend, the creeks could be fishing well, and it might be worth tucking up one to get amongst it. Mangrove jack will be on the agenda. Live baits and strips of fresh mullets lightly weighted and floated back in to the snags should see you bag a few and with a likely bicatch of cod and bream.
Try skipping the mangrove on the last few hours of the afternoon tide if bait fishing isn’t your thing. Fast moving paddle tails for a reaction bite or a slow rolled prawn lure should see you hooking a few. The creeks are full of prawns so make sure to pack the cast net. Teebar and Kauri Creeks have all reported good catches of nice sized prawn.
If the rain and wind does stay away, get out around the moored boats in The Bay & chase a few squid. Hot tip this week is use a Yamashita squid jigs, with both bright orange and hot pink working well for many anglers. If flathead are you thing, they have been hungry!! So fish the afternoon runout tide with soft plastics and shallow hardbodies to bag a few.

Noosa
Quite a lot of trevally and tailor at the mouth of the River and into Woods Bay — surface lure fishing in the afternoon is working well.. Bream, whiting and flathead throughout the river. Jewfish and mangrove jacks around Gympie Terrace – and they are also numbering up, up river, towards Lake Coroibah. Lots of bait around Gympie Terrace – including herring, good sized potty mullet, short nose garfish – especially on the high tide.

A fairly slow week but there are flathead at the river mouth together with jewfish and dart at the mouth. Javelin fish and bream in the frying pan. A few good whiting at the entrance to Lake Coroibah coming around the sand flats.
| Noosa River Fishing Safaris Ph 0429 030 823 | www.noosariverfishing.com |
Only one boat in operation at present, and not seeing much variety. An abundance of moses perch as well as pearl perch, being caught, further north, to “Stingers”.
| Noosa Bluewater Charters Ph (07) 5449 9355 | www.noosabluefishing.com.au |
Plenty of Spanish mackerel being caught – and released – given the closure. There are plenty out there, so anticipation building for the closure lifting. Cobia, yellowtail kingfish, pearl perch, snapper, moses perch, tuskfish, bluefin tuna are all being taken in solid numbers.

Maroochydore
A few whiting caught at Chambers Island and the bottom end of the river. Flathead at the creek mouths. Crabbing quiet the last week, but hopeful it will pick up post the rains. Still some action at the motorway bridge with resident moses perch, cod and mangrove jack – but everything a bit quieter this week – with fewer reports due to fewer people out. The river may well be advantaged by the flush out with the rains.

Mooloolaba
Longtail tuna caught off Cooloum at Port Arkwright. Spotted mackerel at the gneerings. Good snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra wide and Barwon Banks. Black Marlin at 10 mile at Mooloolaba. Good grassy sweetlip in close at Currumundi Reef. Mahi mahi at the FADS using live bait. Stay tuned for the Spanish mackerel opening late next week on the 21st.

Spotted mackerel are in town, while whiting, flathead and grunter are 1,2,3 in terms of their presence in the Pumicestone Passage. Crabs should be motivated by the rain over the next week. There is the odd school jewfish at mouth of Bells Creek. Sweetlip and squire on the coffee rock; a few longtail tuna are also present.

Northern Moreton Bay
The weather ahead is looking very average ruling out offshore fishing. Inshore, there are still plenty of snapper being caught around Scarborough and Woody Point on lightly weighted soft plastics and bait. Mud Island has been fishing well for snapper also, using lightly weighted soft plastics on the reef edge. Threadfin salmon and jewfish being caught at Brisbane River mouth on soft vibes and soft plastics, in the deeper water. Good flathead being caught at the mouth of the Pine and Caboolture Rivers on the outgoing tides on trolled hard body lures and soft plastics. Some good summer whiting still being caught at Hayes inlet and through the Bribie passage at the mouth of Coochin Creek. Some very good mud crabs being caught in the middle reaches of all the creeks. Prawns starting to show up in the deeper holes in the Pine and Caboolture Rivers.

Redcliffe Peninsula
Bream, whiting, flathead and grunter in Hayes Inlet and the Pine River. Yellowfin whiting in Hayes, the Pine, and a few off the beaches. Snapper and a few grassy sweetlip off the Eastern beaches, jetties & rocky points. Grunter and some school mackerel on the inshore Reefs. The odd tailor, school and grey mackerel in numbers off Woody Point jetty, in Bramble Bay and on the inshore reefs. Mangrove jack in the canals. Mud crabs, jacks and the odd threadfin salmon in the rivers and creeks.

Brisbane River
Reports from river include threadfin salmon (primary species), jewfish on the smaller side, with a few bream and flathead also around. The snapper have arrived in the lower reaches, with good specimens around 45 to 50cm; and there are squire at Fort Lytton, Clara Rock and the Port of Brisbane rock wall. There have been good hauls of prawns and cuttlefish, but if the rain comes in big volume over the weekend, it could see this finish. Mud crabs also still around in the lower reaches. The weather looks poor, but you might sneak out at Lytton.

This week saw a number of whiting picked up with the larger tides, however it’s likely to slow up with the smaller tides this week. Threadfin salmon have been the star of this week. Many are being caught, however they are not easy work. There are some very large schools, but finding the school has been the challenging part. A few spotties and spanish are being caught at the mouth of Jumpinpin, south through to the seaway and offshore, with some good snapper out wider also.

Gold Coast Broadwater
Not looking good for the weekend with strong winds and rain. Fishing during this last week has been great with good catches coming in. Sand crabs made an appearance with a few being caught along South Stradbroke, the Aldershots, and Crab Island. Whiting continue to be caught in the rivers with some quality fish mixed in. They were harder to find in the Broadwater area with a lot of small bream taking baits. Flathead were caught around Crab Island with the odd fish over 50cm. Mangrove jack, trevally, and bream were caught in the canals in the Coomera River. Might be a good idea to stay inside this weekend and do some maintenance on your fishing gear.

Southport
A real mixed bag this week with nothing in particular in big numbers. A better bite on the spotted mackerel at Mermaid Reef, some nice snapper & pearl perch on the 24s, with a few Moses perch, trag and big tailor in the mix, as well as small black Marlin on live baits on the 26s.
Inshore has been quieter on whiting due to smaller tides, but still getting a nice feed on beach worms and yabbies, as well as some good size bream.
| BK’s Gold Coast Fishing Charters Ph 0414 293 034 | https://bksfishing.com.au/ |
Weather not looking good, but if you can get out: crabs, whiting, flathead, bream might all be on the menu – fishing the run-in tide, so long as the water is not too discoloured, might still be ok. The run-off-off is not coming down at a rate that it has dirtied up the water too much. Similarly the run-up tides in the rivers might still allow for some bream, whiting, flathead and jacks, estuary cod. Bait fishing might be the better option – something with a bit of smell to it.
Offshore fishing will probably be off limits over the weekend — but during the week gone, there was some good action. Deep-dropping in 300m of water with electric reels produced some sensational flame snapper; as well as kingfish on the 50 to 60 fathom reefs with live baits proving best, but jigging would also get them.
There are plenty of Marlin and wahoo, and some sailfish around also. Little marlin at the trench off Moreton also, which could move south.

Tweed Coast
Currently on leave.
| Cushy Fishing Charters Ph 0418 631 076 | www.cushyfishingcharters.com.au |
Tweed River holding plenty of whiting from Terranora to the top of Tweed River. Plentiful mangrove jack in the river, either on live bait or throwing hard bodies or soft plastics 4” or over. Fast retrieves are working well on a good flowing tide; and on a flat tide, throwing prawns on a slower retrieve has been successful. The trevally are in big numbers, but the flathead have disappeared.
Offshore, there are spanish mackerel and wahoo around Brunswick Heads and Black rock. Wyndarra Banks is yielding yellowfin tuna in very big numbers. Palm Beach Reef is hit and miss. Plenty of snapper at the 36s, even in up to 80m of water. Not seeing marlin, or dolphin fish this week. Bass fishing in the upper reaches of the Tweed has been solid.

Evans Head
Along Airforce Beach you’ll still find the odd tailor. Jewish in the mornings and evenings, and bream and flathead during the day. In the lower reaches there have been bream, flathead, whiting and the odd school jew. Further up river, around the black hole, there has been some mud crabs and mangrove jack. A small cobia was also caught up-river. While surprising, this is not unusual, as baby cobia are found up river this time of year.
Offshore, around Chaos Reef, there have been snapper and trag. Spanish and spotted mackerel in smaller numbers at South Reef. Wider out, at the 48s, the odd cod, kingfish and cobia.

Yamba
Things have lifted and the rains should push fish further down, to enhance fishing in the lower reaches again. There is also plenty of bait in the river, helping things. Abundant bream, flathead, school jewfish in the Clarence River and plenty of good mangrove jack. Offshore, snapper, pearl perch, scorpion cod, long tail tuna are being taken . Spotted and spanish mackerel are still hit and miss but improving significantly, and bust-ups more prevalent. Fishing an hour further south there have been some good spanish mackerel on stick baits and being speared. Crabs not thick but better than they were, and the rains should see more pushed out.

FRESHWATER FISHING
Maroon Dam
A few fish are starting to school up at Maroon, especially as you work your way up toward the creek. Small lipless crankbaits have been doing well, along with chatterbaits. For early risers or those fishing the late afternoon, topwater lures are well worth throwing—small surface walkers along the edges and around the timber have been getting attention.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Moogerah Dam
Plenty of bass and yellowbelly are holding around the trees at Moogerah this week, with fish spread from the main basin right up into the creek arms. Chatterbaits and crankbaits are the standout lures, particularly crankbaits diving to the 5–6 m mark. If you can locate any of the big old standing trees around the dam, make a few casts—this is exactly where the fish have been stationed.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Hinze Dam
Hinze is expected to cop a lot of rain this weekend, but has been fishing reasonably well in the lead‑up. Bass have been coming out of the western arm upstream of the ramp. Chatterbaits, crankbaits and lipless crankbaits are all producing. If you’re chasing a Saratoga, hit the water early and work topwater lures around the timbered bays—there’s always a chance of a toga in the backs of those inlets.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Try fishing down deep, as there might not be much on top. Alternatively, there still might be some fish moving up into the newly covered grass, right on the edges. Might be better to go to bait fishing in the dams also, targeting fish with scent rather than a sight-fishing approach.
| Gold Coast Fishing Tackle Ph (07) 5679 0840 | www.goldcoastfishingtackle.com.au |
Lake Somerset
Plenty of bass getting around on chatterbaits with a slow retrieve, 20–30g spoons with a medium to fast retrieve and soft plastics on a 1/2oz jighead. A few cracking yellowbelly are also on the chew at the moment, falling to the same lures and retrieves as the bass. This solid yellowbelly went 6.8kg and 62cm. Bass are holding in their usual spots, with good numbers on the flats at Kirkleigh, Queen Street and Pelican. The bigger models are coming off the main creek edges in deeper water.
Shaun Clark — Angler

North Pine Dam
At North Pine, bass are still being taken from the edges. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits are the go‑tos for bank‑walkers, while kayakers can push out a little wider and cast back toward the banks with crankbaits and chatterbaits. Some very healthy bass have been caught here recently, and despite the rain pushing fish around, it’s still worth a session—provided the dam isn’t closed due to inflow.
| Charltons Fishing Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au |
Lake Kurwongbah
Kurwongbah is fishing quite well. Chatterbaits along the weed edges are doing damage, and small crankbaits and even blades are worth a run. Dropping a blade down the face of the weed beds has been a reliable way to pin a bass.
