Calm Start with Light Winds this Weekend Before Possible Sunday Showers
February 19th, 20th, 21st 2026 — Issued 8:30pm, February 19th
By Josh Toohey, Coastwatch
The weekend is shaping up to start on a calm and inviting note, with light winds and clear conditions on Friday before winds shift easterly on Saturday and a developing low‑pressure system brings the chance of showers by Sunday.
Friday
Friday brings the best conditions of the weekend, with clouds clearing, temperatures between 22–30°C, and light northeast to easterly winds at 10–15 knots. Swell remains below 1 metre, making for a great evening on the water under clear, cooler skies.
Saturday
Saturday stays partly cloudy with temperatures again sitting between 20–30°C. Winds strengthen slightly from the east at 10–15 knots, though the swell remains below 1 metre, keeping conditions generally manageable for boating and fishing.
Sunday
By Sunday, a low‑pressure system approaches the Queensland coastline, bringing an increased chance of showers. Winds remain easterly at 10–15 knots, with the swell rising to 1.2–1.5 metres, creating more exposed conditions offshore.
Boating Advice
For the best experience on the water this weekend, it’s worth taking advantage of the calmer conditions early and planning your trips with the easterly winds in mind. We suggest sticking to the more protected parts of Moreton Bay— especially the western side of Moreton Island—to stay sheltered as those easterlies pick up through Saturday and Sunday.
Overall a good chance to get out and enjoy your time on the water this weekend —whether you’re fishing, boating, swimming, or surfing.
