For the Coastwatch Product of the Week, we’re looking at the Brain Spike by Ikipik. Brain spiking is something that’s taking off a lot more in Australia now. We’re learning the value of killing fish, humanely and quickly, to improve their eating qualities and to make it a lot safer.

These ones are fantastic, solid plastic with a stainless steel spike on them. Once you learn how to do it properly, these tools are perfect for the job, for laying your fish out nice and quick and killing them.

It serves a couple of purposes when you brain spike. It stops them dying badly and adrenalizing their flesh so their eating qualities improve a lot more.
It also just for the safety factor of it, like I said before.

These guys are literally going to last a lifetime. Heavy duty plastic, stubby opener, lanyard there to wrap around your hand and a stainless steel spike. So an inexpensive lifetime piece of equipment that’s going to improve your fishing, you know, your edible qualities of your fish. I literally do not kill any fish nowadays without brain spiking. So to me, it’s one of the essential parts of your kit, really in your boat or if your land base fishing.

Brain spike by Ikipik, number one little item to have.
