Avalon II | Episode 2
“The Re-Fit — Winn Willard of Ray Hunt Design”
Long serving president and now owner of Ray Hunt design, Winn Willard — a protege and colleague of C. Raymond Hunt — talks to us about the partnership with Australia’s David Pleysier, the significance of the Deep V hull designs and how to get them right.
Winn discusses the satisfaction the firm got in designing “serious boats” for Australian conditions and outlines how the partnership between the world-famous Ray Hunt Design , originators of the “deep V” hull, and Pleysier, resulted in the creation of some of the country’s most legendary game fishing boats; such as “Pannawonica”, “Sea Strike”, “Cervantes”, “Broadbill” and “Avalon II”.
Famous marquees such as “Bertram”, “Boston Whaler” and locally, “Haines Hunter” and “Blackwatch” were all founded and made famous on Raymond Hunt designed hulls. Raymond (Ray) Hunt is one of the most impactful figures in international boat design — having the unique claim to world championships in power and sail.
