A closed season applies to snapper and pearl perch throughout Queensland tidal waters from 15 July to 15 August.

Hervey Bay

Grassy sweetlip, tuskfish, red emperor, coral trout and cod on the reefs in the northern bay, tuskfish and red throat on Sandy Cape shoals, trevally around the bay islands, inshore wrecks and deep reefs in Platypus Bay, sand whiting on the making tide along the beaches from Burrum Heads to Urangan, bream around the rocky outcrops, flathead at the creek mouths, threadfin and blue salmon in the Mary and Susan Rivers and bream and mack tuna early morning off the Urangan jetty. School mackerel off Burrum Heads; remember 50cm is the minimum legal size for school mackerel, carry a measuring stick and make sure they’re legal.

Fraser Island

Bream, tarwhine, whiting and chopper tailor along the eastern beaches. A reminder that there is a total fishing ban from midday August 1st until midday September 30th, in an area from 400m south of Indian Head to 400m north of Waddy Point and 400m seawards of those locations.

Tin Can Bay

Sweetlip, tuskfish and nannygai on Tinnanbar reef, tuskfish and blackall off Norman Point, trevally on metal jigs close to the moorings in the creeks, squid near the moored boats in Tin Can Inlet and a few mud crabs in the upper reaches of the creeks.
