Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.45am 5th March 2024
Weather:
The forecast is for a cloudy day with a 70% chance of showers on the Gold Coast and an 80% chance of showers and storms on the Sunshine Coast. The top temperature should be 27 degrees
Wind:
Gold Coast: 10-15kts SW/S early, forecast to become 15-20kts SE during the morning
Sunshine Coast: 15kts E/SE forecast to become 15-20kts plus during the morning
Swell:
1-1.5m SE on the open beaches, smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands.
Tides:
High: 3.45am & 3.45pm … Low 10.45am
Best waves:
Gold Coast: There’s small waves on the points and in the bays on the north side of headlands and a few bigger beach breaks on the open beaches while the wind is light SW/S. When it swings SE and freshens those points and bays will have the cleanest conditions
Sunshine Coast: Winds have been fresh E/SE all night and most beaches are messy. In E/SE winds, the inner bays at Noosa offer the best protection, but it’s very small and full now. When the tide falls off during the morning, there might be a few small sliders, best suited to long boards
Best Beaches:
Not the best day for the beach, with showers and fresh E/SE and SE winds forecast. In winds from that direction, the bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay offer the best shelter from the wind. This morning and late this afternoon on the ebb tides, the water draining off the beach will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters. Despite the cloud, use sun protection and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags.
