Fishing Report for 20th November 2025

Fishing Report

Queensland East Coast Barramundi closure – 1st November to 31st January

Hervey Bay / Fraser Island

Waddy Point and a few kilometres further south, there have been some good Tailor, mostly 60 to 70 centimetres. Whiting and Dart are present in fair numbers, typical for this time of year, with plenty of worms around. Best time to catch them have been the last two hours of the outgoing tide and the first hour of the incoming tide.

On the west side of Fraser, around Rooneys, a few Marlin are moving through during the black moon. At Kingfisher, anglers are picking up some bigger Flathead and Broad-barred Mackerel, with occasional Queenfish. Sharks are thick around the inshore reefs, but past them, Trout, Cod, Tuskfish, and Grassy Emperor are being caught.

Urangan Pier has plenty of bait but limited catches, mostly Queenfish, GT, School Mackerel, and Broad-barred Mackerel. Local beaches are producing good Whiting late in the afternoon and at night, with catches very moon dependent, particularly around the full moon. On the inshore reefs up to Point Vernon, Trout in the 40 to 60 centimetre range are coming in along with some Grunter.

The Burrum and Mary Rivers are seeing healthy numbers of Mangrove Jack and Threadfin Salmon, mainly in the shallows and gutters on the last part of the runout tide.

Sand Crabs are being taken deeper in the bay, while Mud Crabs remain quiet. The Gutters are holding Trout, but anglers need to work around sharks.

Tin Can Bay

With daytime temps pushing into the 30s, Mangrove Jacks are firing, with solid fish coming out of creeks right across the Bay. Snapper and Carlo Creeks have been consistent for a couple of weeks, with a few fish nudging the 60cm mark.

The Bay is much the same as last week. Whiting are still in good numbers, with regular catches pushing up towards 40cm. The flats from Teebar Creek up to Big Mick and down to the mouth of Kurai Creek remain the key areas. Freshly pumped yabbies or locally caught beach worms are the go, and the new Samaki Skipping Prawns are quickly becoming a favourite for a surface bite.

Flathead are worth a look on the morning low tide, with Seary’s Ledge, the mouth of Alligator Creek, and Teebar Creek all turning up good fish.

Noosa

Snapper, Pearl Perch, Moses Perch, Tuskfish, and Chardons are being caught on North Reef. At Double Island Point, Snapper, Moses Perch, Pearl Perch, Cobia, and Amberjack are coming in. There is still plenty of current, and a few sharks are present.

Flathead have slowed with the new moon building, though a few quality fish were caught beforehand. Big Bream have moved into the river mouths on the flooding tide. Weyba was a bit quiet this week, producing a few nice Flathead and some smaller Moses Perch.

Ski runs in Tewantin showed plenty of activity, but any decent catches were taken by sharks, which have been active in the system over the past two weeks.

Some trophy-sized Largemouth, Nannygai, and Red Emperor are being caught around Double Island Point, along with Amberjack and Snapper. Closer to Noosa, on North Reef, Pearl Perch are biting well, along with Tuskfish and Sweetlip. Laguna Bay is full of baitfish, so Mackerel may start showing soon.

Trevally and Tailor are being caught around the river mouth and up towards the heads and the sound. Bream are widespread, particularly around Gympie and Hilton Terrace as well as whiting and Flathead in the same areas. Crabs are active, with a few large ones moving through. Upriver, Jewfish, Mangrove Jack, and Trevally are feeding well on the high tide, which has been the most productive time for most species.

Mooloolaba

Some quality Mangrove Jack are coming out of Currimundi Lake, with more good Mangrove Jack showing in the upper Mooloolah River. Flathead are still holding around the mouth of the Mooloolah River and in the gutters along Kawana Beach.

Offshore, the close in reefs off Point Cartwright are producing good Grassy Sweetlip. Murphy’s Reef has held some solid Cobia. Dolphin Fish are showing at the 8 Mile. Caloundra Wide and the bottom end of the Hards have produced quality Snapper and Pearl Perch. Mud Crabs are starting to move through the Maroochy River and the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra

Offshore there was a very good-sized Spanish Mackerel caught and on the inshore reefs, we have seen a handful of Spanish Mackerel and a few School Mackerel as well. The inshore reefs have also produced some Sweetlip and Tuskfish, and out wider there are still a couple of Pearl Perch getting taken. Offshore the shark problem has been bad again this year and anglers are losing fish to sharks more often than usual.

Along the beaches a few School Jew have turned up, plus some Whiting and the odd Dart. In the estuary systems there are still good numbers of Whiting and a handful of Flathead, along with a few Mud Crabs. After the recent rain the water is still discoloured and Mangrove Jack have been a bit quieter until things clear. The area had more than 100mm of rain, so the colour will take a bit to settle.

Northern Moreton Bay

Seeing good Flathead at the mouth of the Caboolture River and Pine River on the top of the tide and the start of the run out. Bream have pushed right through the Caboolture and Bribie systems, including the canals around Bribie and the Pine. A few Mangrove Jack are being taken through those same areas, mainly on live baits.

Crabs are starting to move through the river and creek mouths after the recent freshwater, with reports from the Caboolture River, Pine River and the Passage. Night sessions around the bridges and lights on the top of the tide are producing a few Queenfish.

Snapper off Redcliffe have been better quality, just not big numbers, with some Grunter mixed in. Mac Tuna are cruising the Bay, and other tuna species are mixed in at times. No strong word yet on School Mackerel or Spotted Mackerel. Sand Crabs have been steady at the southern end of the Pumicestone Passage. Tailor are still popping up in the Passage, which is a bit unusual for this time of year. Whiting in the rivers have been slow with the freshwater, but anglers putting in time are finding a few on the top of the tide in the cleaner water along the Nudgee foreshore. Offshore reports include Wahoo off Hutchies and some Snapper and Tuskfish in the 100 to 120 metre line.

Brisbane River

Jew fish have picked right up this week, with the mouth of the Port of Brisbane firing. Sand Crabs are still being caught from Lota through Manly Harbour, Wynnum Creek, Wellington Point, and Green Island, with a few Mud Crabs appearing in the mangroves.

Mackerel activity remains mostly on the eastern side of the bay. Cleaner water is producing Mackerel from South Tangalooma through Shark Spit and Blue Hole, down to Harris and Hope Banks. School Mackerel are taking trolled lures, cast metal slugs, and floating Pillies.

Sweetlip are still in good numbers from around Green Island, Wellington Point, and Mud Island. The rivers has also got the occasional Bream, the odd Tailor, and Whiting at the mouth and along the eastern side of Fisherman’s Island.

Moreton Bay/ Jumpinpin

Moreton Bay has been fishing well most days, and the water has cleaned up nicely after last weekend’s rain. Out the front of Raby Bay and Cleveland, the 4 to 5 metre drop-off has been producing good Sweetlip and Squire. The shallow reefs around Peel Island, both north and south, are also fishing well on lightly weighted soft plastics. Goat Island is similar, just focus on any bait holding along the reef edges and the fish won’t be far off.

There are solid schools of Jewfish and Threadfin Salmon through the southern Bay Islands. Spend some time scanning with your sounder and work the current lines; that has been the key for both species.

Jumpinpin has dirtied up again after the rain and the bigger tides. Over the next few days, the cleaner water on the high tide will be the best window. Jewfish and big Flathead are still holding in the deeper water closer to Jumpinpin, with Kalinga Bank and Crusoe Island worth a look if bait is present. Not many Tailor around. Earlier in the week there were a few on the smaller tides, but they’ve thinned out with the bigger tides.

Whiting are fishing well on the Yabby Banks, including the two lagoons and Gold Banks. Brim are tougher at the moment, but lightly weighted plastics are picking up a few inside the canals around Hope Island, Sovereign Island, and the Pimpama River. Threadfin Salmon schools are active around Cabbage Tree Point and the Logan River.

Jumpinpin

A few schools of Tailor have been very active at the bar this week, feeding aggressively with plenty of solid-sized fish. Jewfish are moving through, mostly around 60–70cm, with schools scattered throughout the area. Flathead have been feeding consistently, though not spectacularly, and Whiting are on fire, taking live worms and producing plenty of decent-sized fish. Mangrove Jack are starting to fire with the warmer water, with many fish between 40–55cm being caught. A few late-season Threadfin Salmon are also showing.

Gold Coast Broadwater

Great weekend ahead, time to get out and catch a few. Big tides have the whiting down towards the Seaway, so wading the banks will be a great option. Fishing in the morning with the incoming tide will be the best time. The North Arm of the Coomera and the Pimpama River have also been holding fish. Nighttime fishing up the Nerang has been firing with great catches. Mangrove jack were caught in the Nerang and Coomera rivers next to the rock walls and bridges. Live bait, cut flesh baits, and lures are all working as long as you’re fishing tight to the structure. A few great-sized mudcrabs have come in over the last few days, so it’s definitely worth putting some pots out, especially with the bigger tides. Flathead continue to be caught throughout the Broadwater. This week, they were caught at the mouth of the Pimpama River, the Neverfails, Crab Island, the northern side of the Seaway, and Browns Bay. Trevally were schooling up along Sovereign Island and near the Ephraim Island marina.

Southport

Cobia, Snapper, Tuskfish, Moses Perch, Grunter, and reef Flathead have made up the majority of catches this week, along with other mixed reef species. Most of the action has been around 26 fathoms, where the first signs of bait balls are appearing, signalling pelagic species should start showing soon.

BK’s Gold Coast Fishing Charters
Ph 0414 293 034 | https://bksfishing.com.au/

Conditions are looking good with light winds, making it favourable for fishing the deeper grounds offshore this weekend, trolling for Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and Yellowfin Tuna should be productive, and deep dropping is holding a full range of exotic deep-water species at around 50 fathoms. Kingfish are coming in strong, with some Dolphin Fish around the FADs, and plenty of Pearl Perch and Snapper. On the 36 and 24 fathom grounds, good numbers of Pearl Perch and Snapper are being caught, with the 24 also producing Parrot Fish and some Cobia. Closer in on the 18 fathom reefs, Cobia remain abundant along with bait schools, occasional small Black Marlin, and School Mackerel.

Inside the Seaway, there has been plenty of Jewfish, while at Jumpin-pin Bar, good Flathead and Jewfish are being caught. Large Mangrove Jack are moving through the Seaway as well. Up on the banks, plenty of Whiting are feeding in shallow water, best targeted with beach worms.

The Pimpama and Coomera Rivers are producing good Whiting, and Mangrove Jack are active throughout the systems, including Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks. Mud Crabs are moving again after recent rains, making it a good time to target them.

Tweed Coast

Whiting have been in good numbers in the rivers, along with Trevally, including Bigeye Trevally and GTs. Large Bream and Flathead are also being caught. Mangrove Jack are very active, and Mud Crabs are moving in strong numbers. Offshore, anglers are waiting for the water temperature to rise, with Kingfish, Snapper, and other reef species in good numbers.

Brunswick Heads

Out at sea, Kingfish are still coming in strong, along with a few Snapper, Jewfish, Blue Spot Flathead, and some Tuna. Beaches are producing Dart, Whiting, Tailor, Bream, and Flathead. Rock walls are holding Jewfish, Bream, Dart, Tailor, and Trevally. Rivers have Mangrove Jack, Bream, Flathead, Whiting, Trevally, and a few Mud Crabs.

Evans Head

Airforce Beach has been producing Bream, Flathead, Whiting, Dart and a few School Jew into the evening.
At the river mouth there have been Bream, Flathead and Whiting, but no Luderick. Further upstream the Crabs are solid and should improve as the weather warms. Mangrove Jack have only just started up with the odd one showing. Chaos Reef has Snapper and Trag and out wider around the FADs there have been Amberjack and Pearl Perch.

Yamba

Bream, Flathead and Whiting in the rivers are still fishing well. The Whiting aren’t in big numbers yet, but the size has been solid. Some fish have pushed up around Maclean too. One angler fished that stretch and filled a Flathead bag quickly, picking up good Whiting along the way. Giant Herring have turned up across the flats again. They do this most years and anglers chasing Whiting on poppers are getting smashed by them. Good fun on the surface. Mangrove Jack fishing has stayed consistent with plenty caught on live baits. A few are also being taken on hardbody lures and soft plastics.

Jewfish in the rivers have been quiet. They’re still holding in the system but the cleaner water has them a bit shut down. Outside has been patchy as well, but a few Jewfish have been pulled from the reef out the front. Snapper and Pearl Perch are still coming in off that same reef. Some good Trag have been caught too. No pelagics yet. The water temperature dropped, which might slow and delay them a bit longer.

FRESHWATER FISHING

Wivenhoe Dam

Wivenhoe Dam up towards Billys Bay had fish holding in the main basin and along the deeper riverbed in about 50 to 60 feet. Metal spoons worked well and soft plastics on a half ounce jighead picked up fish with a slow roll on the bottom. Some fish sat up near the buoy line on the humps, and soft plastics and lipless crankbaits suited that area. Inside Billys Bay there are trees down the right side and anglers found good fish sitting on them, with spinnerbaits and chatterbaits doing the job.

Charltons Fishing
Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au

Moogerah Dam

Moogerah Dam is also a little tough but still worth a look. The spit had some fish sitting there with metal spoons in the 20 gram range and soft plastics on half ounce jigheads working on a slow roll. Along the edges, lipless crankbaits like the Jackall TN60 and spinnerbaits around the trees have pulled the odd fish.

Charltons Fishing
Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au

Hinze Dam

Hinze Dam’s western arm is fishing alright with fish tight to the trees. Spinnerbaits worked early around the timber, and topwater can stir up the odd Saratoga. For bass, lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits around the same spots have been the better play.

Charltons Fishing
Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au

Hinze Dam has been a little quiet, but with rain easing and stormy afternoons settling, Saratoga should return to surface feeding, taking poppers and flies.

North Pine Dam/ Lake Kurwongbah

In the freshwater, Bass are fishing well in North Pine Dam and Lake Kurwongbah, with plenty caught and some Saratoga firing up on the edges and in the backs of the bays. Spinnerbaits are a solid option.

Tackleworld Lawnton

Lake Kurwongbah is fishing well along the weed edges. Small crankbaits, chatterbaits and soft plastics along the weed beds are picking up most of the bass.

North Pine Dam from the bank is still producing with a bit of walking needed. Metal spoons around 20 grams and spinnerbaits rolled off the bank are getting fish.

Charltons Fishing
Ph (07) 3818 1677 | www.charltonsfishing.com.au

Maroon Dam

Maroon Dam has been a bit tough but still producing. Small soft plastics have been the better option, including rigging them on a jig spinner for extra flash. As the sun gets up, anglers are shifting to deeper water and slow rolling small paddle tail plastics on quarter or half ounce jigheads. Early and late sessions are still worth trying topwater, especially up the back where the structure holds bass.
