Nerang R. Whiting – Martin Cowling

04:12

From the Coastwatch Vault, this story on catching quality sand whiting in the Nerang River shows the technique of anchoring the boat nose to current, using long light tip rods like a 4136 and a 6″ Alvey reel and laying the rod down and not touching it until the fish has taken the bait. The sinker is just big enough to hold the bottom and the trace is about 1.2m with a bit of red plastic above the hook. Best baits for these big whiting are mud, blood and canal wriggler worms, or small black soldier crabs, but worms are better at night.
