Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.50am Wednesday 29th May 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: The BOM is forecasting a partly cloudy day, with a medium chance of showers on the Gold Coast and a higher chance on the Sunshine Coast, with a top temperature of 24°

Wind Forecast: 5-10kts S/SW early, becoming 10kts SE during the morning and SE/E this afternoon

Swell: 0.75-1m E/SE on the northern ends of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and along the Tweed Coast. A bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands and almost flat around high tide and tiny around low tide in the inner bays at Noosa

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 7.05am & 6.05pm … High @ 12.27pm

Snapper Rocks: Low @ 6.53am & 6.07pm … High @ 12.36pm …

Best waves: With light S/SW winds early, look for waves on the points and the beach breaks along the open beaches, particularly from Maroochydore to Caloundra and Currumbin to Coolangatta. If the winds swing SE during the morning as forecast, The points will have the cleanest conditions. Either side of the middle of the day high tide, they’ll be a bit full, but should be better early this morning and mid to late afternoon on the lower parts of the tides, when there’s less water on the banks. If the wind goes SE/E this afternoon, it should only be light, but wave quality will deteriorate.

Best Beaches: The best beaches today in the forecast SE winds are the bays on the north side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay. There’s inshore holes and gutters along the open stretches of beach and any rips and sweep working around those features, will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach on the afternoon ebb tide, so swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
