Gold & Sunshine Coast Report issued at 5.45am Saturday 6th April 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather Forecast: Cloudy with showers and storms and a top temperature of 27 degrees

Wind Forecast: Light and variable, mostly SW/S early, becoming 10-15kts E/NE during the day. Wind speed and direction could vary due to the position of a trough near the coast and the showers and storms

Swell: 1-1.2m E/SE

Tides: Mooloolaba: High @ 6.09am & 6.32pm … Low @ 12.39pm

Snapper Rocks: High @ 6.05am & 6.37pm … Low @ 12.36pm

Best waves: The wind is light SW/S early this morning, so look for beach breaks on the open beaches. The points are too full on the big morning high tide, but if the wind stays SW/S like it has for the past few days, the points will improve as the tide falls off. If it swings NE as forecast, wave quality will deteriorate and the best options will be beach breaks on the south side of headlands and Southport Spit

Best Beaches: Based on the weather forecast of frequent showers and storms, it’s not looking like a good day for the beach. As we approach the new moon next Tuesday night, tidal differences have increased and on the morning ebb tide, any rips and sweep working around the inshore holes and gutters, particularly along the open stretches of beach will be enhanced, as the extra volume of water drains off the beach. Make sure you swim in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags.

In NE winds, there’s always a chance of bluebottles being blown ashore. Check for them along the tide line before you go in the water, look for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask the beach patrol if there’s been any around. If you are stung, seek medical assistance from the lifeguards
