Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Updated at 1.30pm 9th March 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Weather:

The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 60-70% chance of showers and a top temperature of 29 degrees

Wind:

15-20kts SE this morning, freshening to 20kts plus during the day

Swell:

Peaky 2m E/SE with bigger sets on the open beaches. A bit smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands

Tides:

High: 7.30am … Low 2pm

Best waves:

The run of fresh SE winds continues and are forecast to be stronger today and tomorrow. The open beaches will be messy and the points and bays on the north side of headlands will have the cleanest conditions. There’s a big high tide at 7.30am and most breaks are full now, but should improve as the tide falls off from mid morning to mid afternoon, when there’ll be less water on the banks. It’s the weekend and it will be crowded, but be nice to each other. The Noosa Festival of Surfing starts today and runs until next weekend, so First Point will have a lot happening

Best Beaches:

In the forecast fresh to strong SE winds, the bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay will be the most pleasant beaches, as the headlands provide shelter from the wind

It’s new moon tomorrow night, which means big tides. There’ll be a lot of water pushing around on the making and on the ebb tide from mid morning to mid afternoon, the increased volume of water draining off the beach will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters. Use sun protection and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
