A reminder that to allow spawning to take place, barramundi fishing along the east coast of Queensland is banned for three months from 1st November, for both commercial fishermen and recreational anglers.  Fishing is still permitted in stocked impoundments that fall under the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS).

Hervey Bay

Coral trout, grassy sweetlip, grunter bream and school mackerel in Gatakers Bay, queenfish, broad barred and school mackerel off the Urangan jetty, whiting, grunter and a few queenfish along the beaches from Burrum Heads to Urangan and mud crabs in the lower reaches of the rivers and creeks.

Tailor, dart and bream were being caught along the beaches.  However, winds are forecast to be very strong SE.  Fishing the open beaches will be almost impossible and off rocks exposed to wind and sea, potentially dangerous.  The best idea would be to fish the sheltered creeks, where bream, flathead, whiting and mud crabs have been caught recently.

Evans Head

Very strong SE winds are forecast, so offshore, along the beaches and in the open parts of the Evans River will be unfishable.  The rock walls at the mouth of the Evans River have been producing tailor and flathead, good bream have been taken in the lower reaches and mud crabs in the deeper holes throughout the river.
