Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued 5.30am 29 January 2024

Surf & Beach Report

Wind:

10kt S/SE winds early, forecast to become 10-15kts SE during the day and tending Easterly this afternoon

Swell:

0.5-1m E/SE

Tides:

High 10.15am … Low 4.45pm

Best waves:

Another day of small swell and not much on offer for surfers, apart from small sliders on the points and in the bays on the north side of the Gold Coast headlands. The best of an average lot is from Snapper Rocks to Kirra . On the Sunshine Coast, there’s not much doing at the Bluff at Alex and Moffats. Noosa is all but flat and maybe a walk to the outer bays might produce a few rideable waves. If the wind goes Easterly during the day as forecast, wave quality will deteriorate

Best Beaches:

Showers and storms are forecast again for today. In SE winds, the best beaches for a swim are Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount, Mooloolaba and Main Beach Noosa.

Although tides are slowly decreasing, there’s still a pretty big daytime high today and as the extra volume of water drains off the beach on the ebb tide from late morning through the afternoon, rips and sweep working around the inshore holes and gutters will be enhanced, so swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags

In summer, it’s always a good idea to check for bluebottles before going in the water, so have a look along the tide line to see if any have been blown or washed ashore, for warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask the beach patrol
