Surf & Beach Report

Weather: Gold Coast: Partly cloudy with a 70% chance of showers, most likely late morning and through the afternoon and a top temperature of 27 degrees.

Sunshine Coast: Mostly sunny with a 70% chance of showers, mostly likely late this afternoon and this evening and a top temperature of 28 degrees

Wind: Gold Coast: Light S/SW early, forecast to become 10-15kts SE during the morning, reaching 15kts plus at times during the day

Sunshine Coast: 10-15kts E/SE early, becoming SE during the morning, reaching 15kts plus at times during the day

Swell: 0.751m Easterly and uneven, smaller in the bays on the north side of headlands

Tides: Mooloolaba: Low @ 4.19am & 4.08pm … High @ 10.04am … Snapper Rocks: Low @ 4.06am & 3.51pm … High @ 9.53am

Best waves: It’s Easter and with SE winds forecast, the points and bays on the north side of headlands will have the cleanest waves. it will be very crowded, so be nice to each other and try to remember that surfing is a dance with the waves you and your friends enjoy, not a battlefield.

On the Sunshine Coast, winds have been onshore during the night and early this morning and conditions are messy, the only option for cleaner waves looks to be in the inner bays at Noosa, but it’s small and average quality

On the Gold Coast, winds are light SW/S early and conditions are cleaner. The best of the point breaks early this morning is Snapper Rocks to Greenmount, but it’s small and average quality. It might be worth looking for beach breaks from Burleigh south, to try and get a few less crowded waves

Best Beaches: It’s Easter and the beaches will be crowded. The beach patrols will be working hard to keep everyone safe, so keep an eye on family and friends and make sure you swim in the in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags. The safest beaches for a swim will be in the bays at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay.

On the ebb tide from late morning through the afternoon, any rips and sweep working around the inshore holes and gutters will be enhanced as the water drains off the beach, particularly along the open stretches. There were bluebottles along the beaches yesterday, check along the tide line for them before you go in the water, look for stinger warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask the beach patrol if there’s any around. If you are stung, seek treatment from the beach patrol
