Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued at 5.30am 10th March 2024
Weather:
The forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a 70-80% chance of showers and a top temperature of 28-29 degrees
Wind:
15-20kts SE this morning, freshening to 20kts plus during the day
Swell:
2m E/SE on the open beaches. 1-1.5m in the bays on the northern side of headlands
Tides:
High: 8.15am … Low 2.30pm
Best waves:
The fresh to strong SE winds continue, which is normal in March. The open beaches are messy and the points and bays on the north side of headlands will have the cleanest waves. Due to the new moon tonight, there’s a big high tide mis morning and most breaks will become full as we near the top of the tide, but should improve as the tide falls off to a mid afternoon low, when there’ll be less water on the banks.
It’ll very crowded being the weekend and everyone surfing the points, so try to be considerate and avoid conflict. The Noosa Festival of Surfing is on for the rest of this week, so there’ll be a lot happening at Main Beach and First Point
Best Beaches:
There’s enough swell for swimming on the open beaches to be potentially dangerous. In the forecast fresh to strong SE winds, the sheltered bays on the northern side of the headlands at Noosa, Mooloolaba, Burleigh, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay will Have a bit less swell and be the safest and most pleasant beaches.
It’s new moon tonight, which means big tides and combined with the solid swell, there’ll be a lot of water pushing around. From mid morning to mid afternoon on the ebb tide, the increased volume of water draining off the beach, will enhance any rips and sweep working in and around the inshore holes and gutters, so make sure you don’t go out of your depth and swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
