The southern Spanish mackerel closed seasons for east coast waters south of latitude 22˚S (located slightly north of Stanage Bay, between Mackay and Yeppoon) to the NSW border are from 1^st to 21^st of February and 1^st to 21^st of March.

Hervey Bay

Grassy sweetlip, coral trout, blackall and grunter bream on the inshore reefs, trevally around the bay islands and inshore ship wrecks, garfish, flathead and broad barred mackerel off the Urangan jetty, trevally, flathead, whiting and squid off the Kingfisher Bay Resort jetty, dart, whiting and grunter bream along the town beaches, mulloway at River Heads, threadfin salmon, barramundi and grunter bream in Sandy Straits and lower reaches of the Mary River and mangrove jack, barramundi and grunter bream in the Burrum River.

Tin Can Bay

Barramundi and threadfin salmon in Sandy Straits, golden trevally off Norman Point, diver whiting and squid around the moored boats and mangrove jack on the last of the ebb tide in the creeks.

Noosa

Bream and grunter bream throughout the Noosa River and flathead along the Noosaville reach.

Flathead at the Noosa River mouth and trevally and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Coral trout and cobia at Sunshine Reef and amberjack and mulloway at North Reef.

Pearl perch, snapper, sweetlip and mahi mahi at the Hards and Barwon Banks and pearl perch, sweetlip and cod on the Noosa local reefs.

Maroochydore

Bream and grunter bream throughout the Maroochy River, sand whiting on the making tide near the river mouth, flathead along the Bli Bli reach and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Mooloolaba

Spotty mackerel at Caloundra wide, mahi mahi around the FADs, dart and whiting along the beaches, mangrove jack around the bridge pylons, rock walls and pontoons in the Mooloolah River and mud crabs in the middle reaches.

Grassy sweetlip and snapper at Raper Shoal and spotty mackerel on the Inner Gneerings.

Black marlin, sailfish and wahoo at the 18 mile, tuskfish and hussar on the Barwon Banks and spotty mackerel on Caloundra reefs.

Caloundra

Sweetlip and snapper on the inshore reefs, school mackerel at Caloundra 5 and 7 Mile, sand whiting and grunter bream near the new bar entrance, mangrove jack in the canals and mud crabs in the creeks.

Donnybrook

The water in the creeks is dirty due to recent heavy rain, the best advice would be to fish and crab around the mouth on the flood tides, in the feeding zone where the dirty water meets the clean seawater.

Bribie Island

Sand whiting at Woorim Beach, flathead and whiting at White Patch, snapper, sweetlip and squid under the Bribie Bridge, bream, mangrove jack and barramundi in Pacific Harbour canals and mud crabs in the creeks.

Northern Moreton Bay

Snapper at dawn and dusk on Scarborough reef, school mackerel around the shipping beacons and flathead at the mouth of the Pine and Caboolture Rivers; best on the flood tide as there is quite a bit of fresh coming down on the ebb.

Redcliffe Peninsula

Snapper, bream, sweetlip, grunter bream and tailor around the inshores, rocky points and jetties, mangrove jack, cod and grunter bream in Newport canals and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks.

Brisbane River – Northern Moreton Bay

Grassy sweetlip around Green and Peel Islands and threadfin salmon in the slack water in the lower reaches of the Brisbane River.

Wynnum Manly

Snapper around Peel Island, grassy sweetlip off Wellington Point and Green Island, diver whiting on the Chain Banks and in the Small Ships Gutter and spotty mackerel NE of Harry Atkinson artificial reef.

Nth Stradbroke Island

Fish all beaches for dart, whiting, bream and chopper tailor.

Redland Bay

Snapper and sweetlip at West Peel, Harry Atkinson and Curtin artificial reefs, diver whiting in the Rous Channel and Fishermans Gutter and mud crabs at the mouth of the creeks.

Jumpinpin

Tailor inside the Pin Bar, flathead and whiting along the southern end of North Straddie and bream at the Five Ways, Rocky Point and Cobby rocks.

Tailor inside the Pin Bar, sand whiting near the Power Lines and Logan River mouth, bream in Jacobs Well Channel and mud crabs along the southern end of Kangaroo Island.

Southport

Black marlin and mahi mahi on the 50s, snapper on the 36s, spotty mackerel at Palm Beach and Mermaid Reefs, mulloway in Southport Seaway, bream, whiting and sand crabs in Southport Broadwater and mangrove jack, trevally and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks.

Pearl perch, snapper and rosy jobfish in 80 metres east of Southport and sand whiting and sand crabs in Southport Broadwater.

Currumbin

Spotty mackerel at Palm Beach Reef and the Gravel Patch east of Burleigh, dart and whiting along the beaches and flathead, whiting, mangrove jack and school jew in Currumbin and Tallebudgera Creeks.

Tweed Coast

Flathead, bream, grunter bream, mangrove jack and school jew in the lower reaches of the Tweed River.

Snapper, pearl perch and tuskfish on the 30s east of the Tweed.

Evans Head

Snapper and trag jew at Kahors Reef and North Ground, bream and school jew along Main and Airforce Beaches, bream and luderick along the rock walls at the Evans River mouth, flathead, bream and whiting in the lower reaches and mud crabs in the upper reaches.

FRESHWATER FISHING

Boondooma Dam

Bass and golden perch on trolled lures in the Stuart River, around the Junction and Barbers Pole.  Be aware that a fishing competition is being held this weekend, so there will be more anglers than usual.

Bjelke Petersen Dam

Golden perch and small bass on trolled lures along the edge of the creek bed in the main basin and golden perch on blades along the tree lined edges towards the dam wall.

Lake Kurwongbah

Bass and saratoga on spinner baits around the dam edges.

Hinze Dam

Bass on spinner baits along the deep rock walls.

Lake Samsonvale

Bass on white coloured crank baits and saratoga on small poppers along the newly flooded banks.

Moogerah Dam

Bass on blades and heavy soft plastics in the deep water close to the timber.

Maroon Dam

Bass on small soft plastics and slow rolled chatter baits close to the timber from the bays to the creek arm.
