Gold & Sunshine Coast Report Issued 5.40am 28 January 2024
Wind:
A 10-15kt Southerly change with accompanying showers and storms pushed slowly up the SE Qld Coast overnight. It’s currently moving through Moreton Bay toward the Sunshine Coast. Winds ahead of the change are light N/NW.
Swell:
0.5-1m E/NE
Tides:
High 10am … Low 4.15pm
Best waves:
The swell is uneven and lacking power. Look for a few sliders on the Gold Coast points later today when the tide falls off. On the Sunshine Coast, the best options this morning will be beach breaks at Sunshine Beach, Yaroomba, Kawana and Kings Beach Caloundra. When the Southerly change makes it through later today, there might be a few small ones on the lower part of the tide in the outer bays at Noosa, The Bluff at Alexandra Headland and Moffat Headland
Best Beaches:
It’s not good beach weather on the Gold Coast with showers and storms. They should clear during the day and when they do the best beaches for a swim will Burleigh, Kirra and Greenmount. On the Sunshine Coast, it’s overcast and showers and storms should arrive in the next few hours. The best beaches for a swim will be Kings at Caloundra while the wind is N/NW this morning. If it swings Southerly later today, Noosa and Mooloolaba
Once again, there’s a big daytime high tide and as the extra volume of water drains off the beach on the ebb tide from late morning through the afternoon, rips and sweep working around the inshore holes and gutters will be enhanced, so swim only in the patrolled areas marked by the red and yellow flags
In summer, it’s always a good idea to check for bluebottles before going in the water, so have a look along the tide line to see if any have been blown or washed ashore, for warning signs in the patrolled areas, or ask the beach patrol
