The annual barramundi closed season along Queensland’s east coast starts from midday 1st November to midday 1st February 2024 except in stocked impoundments.

Hervey Bay

Tuskfish, hussar, gold spotted wrasse, jobfish and red throat emperor wide of Breaksea Spit, spotty mackerel, longtail and mack tuna in Platypus Bay, cobia and trevally under the bait balls, sweetlip, coral trout, blackall and cod on the inshore reefs, flathead and a few whiting along the town beaches, trevally, pencil squid, school and broad barred mackerel off the Urangan jetty, grunter bream, school jew, threadfin and blue salmon at River Heads and in Sandy Straits and mangrove jack in the Burrum River and creeks on the western side of Fraser Island.

Rainbow Beach Offshore

Conditions have been unfavourable for offshore fishing; will fish again once the seas settle.

Tin Can Bay

Flathead in Teebar Creek and on the flats in front of the Skate Park, sweetlip and blackall at Norman Point, trevally on the flats around the Powerlines, queenfish on the ebb tide at the mouth of the creeks and squid close to the moored boats in Tin Can Inlet.

Noosa

Bream, whiting and trevally along the Tewantin reach of the Noosa River, flathead in Woods Bay, sand crabs in the lower reaches and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Estuary cod near the dog beach at the Noosa River mouth, flathead in Woods Bay, sand whiting in Weyba Creek and flathead and estuary cod in Lake Cooroibah.

Snapper, pearl perch, sweetlip, coral trout and cobia at Sunshine Reef.

Pearl perch, snapper, sweetlip, cod and moses perch at North Reef.

Maroochydore

Sand whiting and sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Maroochy River, flathead and bream along the Bli Bli reach and mangrove jack in the upper reaches.

Mooloolaba

Pearl perch and snapper at Caloundra wide, school mackerel on the Inner Gneerings and Currimundi Reef, dart and whiting along the beaches, bream along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth, mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs.

Tuskfish and cobia at the Hards and Barwon Banks and mahi mahi around the FADs.

Caloundra

Spanish, spotty and school mackerel at Currimundi wide and Caloundra 12 Mile, spanish mackerel and yellowtail king near the Mooloolaba blinker, sweetlip on the inshore reefs, flathead near the new bar entrance, sand whiting and sand crabs in Pumicestone Passage and mangrove jack in the creeks and canals.

Donnybrook

Flathead along the drop offs, sand whiting at Roys and the mouth of the creeks, grunter bream at Mission Point and 112, mangrove jack in Elimbah and Glasshouse Creeks and school jew in the deep holes.

Bribie Island

Flathead and whiting around Sandstone Point and at White Patch, snapper, estuary cod and school mackerel under the Bribie Bridge, trevally and mangrove jack in Pacific Harbour canals and sand crabs in the main channel.

Northern Moreton Bay

School mackerel close to the shipping beacons in the northern bay, snapper at Curtin artificial reef and Bulwer drop off, sand whiting on the making tide at the mouth of creeks that run off Pumicestone Passage, flathead and whiting in the lower reaches of the Caboolture River, mangrove jack and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks and sand crabs off Scarborough, Woody Point and the southern end of Bribie Island.

Redcliffe Peninsula

Snapper, bream and sweetlip around the inshores, rocky points and jetties, bream, whiting and flathead in Hays Inlet and the Pine River, mangrove jack and grunter bream in the Pine River and Newport canals, sand crabs off Scarborough and in Bramble Bay and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks.

Moreton Bay Offshore

Snapper on the 29s and mahi mahi around the FADs.

Brisbane River – Northern Moreton Bay

Snapper and sweetlip around Mud and Green Islands, bream, snapper and mud crabs in the lower reaches of the Brisbane River and sand crabs on the eastern side of Fisherman Islands.

Wynnum Manly

Snapper around Mud and Green Islands, diver whiting near D’Arcy Light, sand crabs along Wynnum Manly foreshores and mud crabs close to the rock walls in the lower reaches of the Brisbane River.

Nth Stradbroke Island

Fish all beaches for dart, whiting, flathead and chopper tailor.

Redland Bay

Sweetlip around Mud and Green Islands, mulloway at West Peel artificial reef and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs in the creeks.

Snapper on the shallow reefs at Coochiemudlo Island and flathead and bream between the Pin Bar and southern end of Canaipa Passage.

Jumpinpin

Tailor in the surf at South Straddie and inside the Pin Bar, flathead in the deep water around Kalinga Bank, Eden and Oak Islands, bream at Rocky Point and near the timber along the southern end of North Straddie and chopper tailor in Canaipa and Tipplers Passages.

Tailor inside the Pin Bar, sand whiting on the banks along the western side of South Straddie, bream in Jacobs Well channel and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs.

Southport

Snapper and pearl perch on the 36s and 50s, snapper and silver jew on the 24s, snapper, silver jew and school mackerel on the 18s, flathead, whiting, tarwhine and chopper tailor along the beaches, trevally, tailor and mangrove jack in Southport Seaway, flathead, whiting and sand crabs in Southport Broadwater and mangrove jack and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks.

Mahi mahi around the FADs and flathead, whiting and sand crabs in Southport Broadwater.

Currumbin

Dart, whiting and a few chopper tailor along the beaches, bream and whiting in the lower reaches of the creeks and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and in the canals.

Tweed Coast

The weather hasn’t been good for fishing this week, with a lot of showers and fresh to strong winds. However, there has been flathead, jew and bream in the deeper holes of the middle reaches of the Tweed River.

Snapper, tuskfish and maori cod on the 30s east of the Tweed.

Pottsville

Dart, whiting and flathead along the beaches, flathead, bream, whiting and mud crabs in the upper reaches of the creeks, mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks and luderick close to the rock walls in the lower reaches.

Evans Head

Snapper and trag jew at Kahors Reef and North Ground, bream along the rock walls at the Evans River mouth, flathead, bream, whiting and sand crabs in the lower reaches and a few mud crabs in the upper reaches.

FRESHWATER FISHING

Boondooma Dam

Bass and golden perch located with sounder on trolled spinner baits and jackalls in the deeper parts and bass on spinner baits close to the timber in the Boyne and Stuart Rivers.

Lenthalls Dam

Bass on spinner baits and hard vibes off the deep points and barramundi at dawn and dusk on surface frogs and paddletail soft plastics in the upper reaches of the creeks.

Lake Monduran

Barramundi on big soft plastics and jerk baits around the windblown points and in the back of the bays and on trolled lures in the main basin.

Lake Kurwongbah

Bass and saratoga on surface lures around the weed edges and lily pads.

Hinze Dam

Bass early morning on surface lures around the dam edges and during the day on small diving minnows in the wind lanes.

Wyaralong Dam

Bass on small plastics, paddle tails and crank baits along the edges in both arms.

Moogerah Dam

Bass at dusk on black chatter baits along the timbered edges towards the upper reaches.

Maroon Dam

Bass on chatter baits and small blades along the timbered edges towards the creek arm.
