Fishing Report

Hervey Bay

Coral trout, red emperor, sweetlip, pearl perch, snapper and tuskfish on the wide reefs; however, sharks are a huge problem. Grunter bream and scarlet sea perch on the rubble reefs and longtail tuna in Platypus Bay, school mackerel near the Fairway Buoy, coral trout, grassy sweetlip and cod on the change of the tide on the inshore reefs, coral trout, grassy sweetlip and grunter bream off Point Vernon, threadfin salmon in Sandy Straits, sand crabs in the bay and mud crabs in the creeks. Green toad fish are widespread along the beaches from Burrum Heads to Urangan.

Spanish mackerel at Caloundra 12 Mile and the Gneering Shoals, pearl perch at Caloundra wide, sand whiting in the low tide gutters along the beaches, bream along the La Balsa Park reach of the Mooloolah River and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs.

After heavy rain this week there’s a lot of fresh coming down the creeks and the best place to fish is near the mouth on the flooding tide where the clean water meets the fresh. Expect to catch a few bream, flathead, whiting and mud crabs.

Somerset Dam

Bass located with sounder on trolled lures and bait and red claw around the rocks, weed and sticks; best bait has been rockmelon.

Maroon Dam

Bass and golden perch at dawn and dusk on surface lures around the dam edges, on chatter baits and small soft plastics off the points and on spinner baits close to the timber in the upper reaches. Plenty of tilapia on worms on the weed beds; remember these a noxious pest fish and should not be released if caught; please dispose of in the bins provided.
