The southern Spanish mackerel closed seasons for east coast waters south of latitude 22˚S (located slightly north of Stanage Bay, between Mackay and Yeppoon) to the NSW border are from 1^st to 21^st of February and 1^st to 21^st of March.

Hervey Bay

Coral trout, grassy sweetlip and nannygai on the deep inshore reefs, trevally around the inshore wrecks and Urangan jetty, grunter bream, mangrove jack, barramundi, threadfin and blue salmon in Sandy Straits, pencil squid in the clean water in the bay, dart, whiting and grunter bream along the town beaches, barramundi and mangrove jack in the Burrum River, threadfin salmon, grunter bream and barramundi in the lower reaches of the Mary River and mud crabs in the rivers and creeks.

Tin Can Bay

Mangrove jack and barramundi along the deep ledges in the bay and inlet, diver whiting, squid and sand crabs around the moored boats, mangrove jack, barramundi and mud crabs in the creeks and mud crabs close to the mangroves on the flats.

Noosa

Bream along the Noosaville reach of the Noosa River, flathead around Munna Point Bridge and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs.

Flathead at the Noosa River mouth, bream and whiting at the Frying Pan and grunter bream in Woods Bay.

Pearl perch, snapper and cobia at Sunshine and North Reefs.

Pearl perch, sweetlip and moses perch at North and Sunshine Reefs.

Maroochydore

Sand whiting on the making tide in the lower reaches of the Maroochy River, bream and flathead around the Motorway Bridge pylons and mud crabs in the middle reaches.

Mooloolaba

Spotty mackerel at Currimundi Reef, cobia on the Gneering Shoals, sand whiting on the making tide in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River, mangrove jack in the upper reaches and mud crabs in the mid to lower reaches.

Spotty and school mackerel on trolled live baits around Old Woman Island.

Tuskfish and hussar on the Barwon Banks and amberjack at the Hards.

Caloundra

Grassy sweetlip, snapper, spotty mackerel and cobia on the inshore reefs, sweetlip and bream off Moffat headland, flathead and whiting near the new bar entrance, bream and grunter bream in Pumicestone Passage, mangrove jack in the canals and mud crabs in the lower reaches of the creeks.

Bribie Island

Sand whiting at Woorim Beach, flathead at White Patch, squid under the Bribie Bridge, bream and mangrove jack in the canals and mud crabs in the creeks.

Northern Moreton Bay

Longtail tuna and school mackerel close to the beacons in the northern bay, spotty mackerel between Mud Island and Harry Atkinson artificial reef, snapper at dawn and dusk around Mud Island, Harry Atkinson artificial reef and Redcliffe inshores, flathead on the making tide at the mouth of the Pine and Caboolture Rivers and mud crabs in the mid to lower reaches of the creeks.

Redcliffe Peninsula

Snapper, bream, sweetlip, grunter bream and cod on the inshores, tailor around the jetties and rocky points and mangrove jack, estuary cod and grunter bream in Newport canals.

Brisbane River – Northern Moreton Bay

Spotty mackerel at Harry Atkinson artificial reef and on the eastern side of Mud Island, snapper, grassy sweetlip and sand crabs around the bay islands and mud crabs in the creeks.

Wynnum Manly

Grassy sweetlip around Green Island, diver whiting on the Chain Banks and in Small Ships Gutter, spotty mackerel between Harry Atkinson artificial reef and Mud Island and it would be worth setting a few pots for mud crabs in the creeks.

Nth Stradbroke Island

Fish all beaches for dart, whiting, bream and chopper tailor.

Redland Bay

Grassy sweetlip around Mud and Peel Islands, diver whiting off the Sandhills and in Fishermans Gutter, spotty mackerel north of Harry Atkinson artificial reef, threadfin salmon in the lower reaches of the Brisbane River and mud crabs in the creeks.

Snapper and flathead on top of the tide around the southern bay islands.

Jumpinpin

Tailor inside the Pin Bar, sand whiting on Pandanus banks, bream around the jetties and mud crabs in Jacobs Well channel.

Southport

Snapper on the 36s, dart and whiting along the beaches, sand whiting around Wave Break Island and Lands End and mangrove jack and trevally in the Coomera, Pimpama and Nerang Rivers.

Blue and striped marlin on the Continental Shelf, sand whiting at the Pin and sand and mud crabs around the Aldershots.

Currumbin

Cobia and spotty mackerel at Palm Beach Reef, dart, whiting and a few tailor along the beaches, flathead in the lower reaches of Currumbin and Tallebudgera Creeks and mangrove jack in the mid to upper reaches.

Tweed Coast

Flathead, bream, grunter bream, trevally and school jew in the lower reaches of the Tweed River.

Snapper, pearl perch and tuskfish on the 30s east of the Tweed.

Evans Head

Snapper and trag jew at Kahors Reef and North Ground, bream along Main and Airforce Beaches, bream, flathead and whiting in the lower reaches of the Evans River and mud crabs in the upper reaches.

FRESHWATER FISHING

Boondooma Dam

Bass on hard bodies trolled to 3 to 5 metres around the Junction and on spinner baits along the rock walls in the main basin.

Lake Kurwongbah

Saratoga at dawn and dusk on surface lures and bass on small spinner baits along the newly flooded grassy banks.

Hinze Dam

Bass on small frog lures along the newly flooded grassy banks.

Lake Samsonvale

Bass on lipless crank baits and saratoga on natural coloured spinner baits along the newly flooded grassy banks.

Moogerah Dam

Bass on dark coloured and gold chatter baits along the timbered edges towards the main creek.

Maroon Dam

Bass at dawn and dusk on small poppers and surface lures and during the day on lipless crank baits around the dam edges.
