Gold Coast Waters: Cape Moreton to Point Danger

Issued at: 18/01/2018 15:51.

A high pressure system near the New South Wales coast extends a firm ridge into southern Queensland waters. The high and associated ridge will gradually weaken later today and during Friday. A new high is then likely to move into the Tasman Sea over the weekend, slightly reinforcing the ridge. A deep, slow moving low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is producing a long period south to southeasterly swell over southern waters. The swell will gradually abate later today and during Friday as the low weakens.

Weather radars show rainfall but apart from very dark colours in heavy rainfall echoes, radars don’t show if the rain is coming from storms. To see if there are storms associated with the rain check this lightning tracker.
